Manual Radiator Valves?

Hey guys, I couldn't find any threads with the same question I have so I thought I'd ask for your help with an issue.

I live in a bungalow and all the radiators have the standard valves like this one ppv_manual.png

I have all the manual valves left open on all radiators with the Lockshield valves fully open in the rooms we use the most, with the other rooms Lockshield valve turned halfway (adjusting less/more for certain rooms).

I'm a little confused as to what the Manual Radiator Valves do if you've already adjusted/balanced the radiators with the lockshield valve?

    Thanks in advance.

Manual valves are basically for on/off function.

Lock shield valve are so the heating is balanced and they should then be left alone.

You have it screwed up. LSVs are there to ensure a system is balanced and once done, capped and left alone. Basically, LSV nearest the boiler is least open where rad furthest away is open the most, and graduated on all rads in between. The adjustable valve, as previously posted, is the only one that should be adjusted and really just performs an on/off function.

For proper variable control you would need to replace these with TRVs.

My question is why would you turn down the temperature on a radiator when you could close the LSV a 1/4 turn and the hot water could go to a radiator that needs it more?
