Laptop is unresponsive in normal mode.
    (Toshiba t3200 laptop running XP.)

No problem booting up normally. Once booted however, I can move the cursor around, but cannot click on anything. Ctrl alt delete does not work. Nothing works.

In safe mode, everything works fine.

What sort of things should I be looking at?

    Thanks
    P

Run your antivirus and/or download Malwarebytes (free version), do a full scan.

    your symptoms sound like ransomware.
