Looking to get a sky box to use abroad

I have a sky account at the moment. My brother lives abroad and wants to get a sky box and card to use there.

I am looking to do it legit if possible and was wondering if anybody has ever done this with sky. I guess the question is

Will they let me set up another account at my address and have a separate subscription which he can then take the box and card. I see that they no longer need you to have the box attached to a phone line either.

I would be willing to pay the 12 months subscription up front if that makes a difference but I suspect not.

Also, would the guys who have the sky stands in the shopping centers be any use. I suspect they are just sales lads who will tell you anything to get you to sign up.

    Many thanks :pac:

How far away is 'abroad'? New satellites at 28 degrees east have tighter coverage patterns than before.

Should be possible to get all channels there, from what I've read anyway.

    See here: http://www.a516digital.com/2014/02/uk-tv-in-europe-how-big-should-my-dish.html

Mentions dish size 80-120cm for Wiesbaden. Should be similar for Frankfurt, local installers will know.

I see in the T&C on the SKY website that the box must be connected to a broadband source. That could be a problem

It does, for things like On demand / catch up to work. It's not compulsory.

Isn't it compulsory now for multi room, I'm sure it replaced the need for a phone line?

But if you were to take out a second full sub in your brother's name at your address there would be no need for a phone/broadband connection.

I got a second subscription for my dad in Lanzarote a few years ago. Registered at my address where I have my own active sub. No issues whatsoever, but I got it through a sky kiosk in local shopping centre. I explained what I wanted first to see if they were ok with it & they sorted me out a few days later
