    Hi All

Yesterday evening I did my first drive with one of the members of this forum, who has launched a Learner Charity Accompanying Driver scheme!

Its an excellent initiative and I will be doing more practice through this scheme next weekend.

This is a win:win scenario supporting worthy Irish charities and reducing the rish of Learner accidents on our roads by driving with a very experienced fully licenced driver outside the Learners own family/circle of friends.

Yes I have spoke to a Guard informally and he did not see a problem with it.

I spoke to the RSA and they also see no problem with it as I am not giving lessons.

    What does "informally" mean?
    Is the Charitable Status registered?

Informally means casually, unofficial etc. In this sense I asked a Guard did he see it as being legal, he said yes but as I approached him informally this was just a verbal confirmation.

Yes ALONE, DSPCA, ISPCC and Amensty International are all registered charities.

Do you understand what I'm trying to do?

I have absolutely no issue with what you say are your intentions.
Unfortunately as I don't know you I couldn't say whether it's legit or not.
Look at it this way we have to have Garda vetting to do our job.

I can understand your concern regarding my accountability and for that reason I have already linked the Facebook page to my own page so there is a connection to the person behind the initiative. I would hope that it's popularity will grow once more people avail of this initiative and give feedback like the OP has.

It is also understandable that you would have to get Garda clearance to do your job as the government has made contact hours/EDT with a driving instructor part of the requirements for getting a license. What I'm offering is an agreement between adults if they so wish.

What I'm offering is by no means an alternative to lessons. It is there to complement and allow the learner practice what the instructor has taught them. I'm sure you're aware of the emphasis that the RSA is putting on the sponsors role and how everybody, learner, sponsor and instructor all have a part to play in helping people become better drivers. If somebody has difficulty finding a sponsor then I will happily help once they are getting lessons from an instructor and have a car that's fully L plated, taxed, insured and NCT'd.
