I have neither beef bulls nor a dairy herd so opinions from people who have either might set me straight on a few things.
would there be scope for beef men to supply dairy men with AA or HE (or any other breed) bulls for the two months after they have AI’d all they want, and for this service the beef man gets the calves at an agreed discount (say IFJ/market calf price less €??).
The dairy man has not to worry about keeping a beef bull for the year that he does not need and also has not be concerned about advertising or bringing calves too Mart. The beef man can produce/buy quality bulls that produce early maturing/easy fleshing/ good converting calves that give the quality he wants.
There would be a lot of trust involved and some concerns might be the dairy man overworking the bull more than agreed, or not supplying all the calves sired by the bull back, on the beef man side the dairy man would need to know the bull is easy calving and able to do the business for the amount of cows required.
This may already be happening but I haven’t been told about it and think it could be an option for lot of calf too beef men as they could improve greatly the quality of their stock, plan better for stock arriving and also forecast better what beef he will have in 18-24 months’ time as he has confidence in the bulls he has to produce the right stock.

    i milk cows
id prefer just buy a bull outright for the job as its less complicated and when i cut his throat that money goes a long way to a replacement
    i see your point though
