i am feeding a couple of bulls at the moment, the are on meal ad-lib since the begining of the year.
i was advised to change from giving them ging them silage to straw as the sulage i had at the time was very wet and green.
on saturday i started using a new batch of silage bales that are much dryer. the are more like haylage then silage, it is 2nd crop silage and looks very good quality?
should i stick with the straw or give them the haylage?
they eat very little straw and are mad for this new dry silage?

I would give them the silage as well. Dry silage (over 30 DM) is what I always feed bulls with ration as I find that you can feed them longer. While it may take a little longer to finish it is cheaper and they can stay on ration linger than ad-lib meal and straw. I always give access to straw as well they only eat very little. A bale of staw would do 20 bulls 10-14 days.

thanks for that, i will give them the silage and some straw but i cannot see them eat much straw with nice silage and meal to keep them going.
