No real beef to start on this thread as I'm about 40% through the form and I'm exhausted from the weekend. interested in people's views though

Pretty strong liking for broughton, he's a machine, loves big fields, and has put up serious performances this season. His first race over hurdles where he was beaten a head by fox norton he wasn't even trying. He is my idea of a horse who will break John fergusons Cheltenham winner breakthrough. Solid experience including on the flat and ran a great race last day out.

    Other 2 are
    Rutherglen
    Royal Irish hussar

The rest I can't have at prices and with form. Will put up some more detail
    On the other 2 shortly

Still can't believe how short plinth is on ladbrokes

The Adonis hurdle at Kempton this Saturday might provide a few more clues. Usually a quality race....

Unless something decent emerges from that race on Saturday, The Triumph will be a very tough race to call this year.

you should take note of plinths price with Ladbrokes given they they always seem to have a good idea with aidan o brien horses

Fair point re lads but he's a crap jumper. Ivan Grozny has already been effectively ruled out as not good enough for triumph even though he finished just behind him. Maybe he'll find improvement for better ground but I saw nothing in either of his runs to date to justify him being anything other than an outsider. Always a tricky contest to find the winner but on the evidence to date, plinths hurdling will prove his achillies heel.

Willie has a first time out horse on Sat that's supposed to be useful.

Thought it odd that the first two in the betting are 30 or better on Betfair. I've put a small bet on Alcala. There was a lot of talk about the other Nichols horse Solar Impulse the first time it ran so telling that Jacob has chosen Alcala. Looking forward to the race.

I guess the first two in the betting still have it all to prove before being considered real Triumph contenders compared to those ahead of them in the ante post market. It's a trial afterall for potential triumph horses.

Activial has been chipped away at all week for the Triumph, I hope this is thanks to people in the know! I'm almost certain he was available at 50s on the machine for about 40 quid this time last week.

Pearl Castle will be winning this and I think he will be a lot better on good ground.

Was hoping Adriana Des Mottes appeared again and Ruby up on top of her tomorrow at Fairyhouse. Was impressed with her debut victory for Mullins and if she wins in good style tomorrow the 20s available will be long, long gone. Quite an interesting Triumph contender in my books.

I really like Pearl Castle for this too. Hugely impressive first time out and was an easy winner the other day despite first impressions. When you watch it again, he was going away under hands and heels. Should definitely be in the shake up in what looks an average year.

Any update on whether he goes for the Triumph? Fry mentioned he might be held back for Aintree. I have my sole antepost bet lumped on him @33/1 (antepost, not NRFB) so I want him to run on Gold Cup Day. He looked a little on his toes in the prelims on Saturday but was very professional & won impressively. In my totally unbiased/detached/impartial opinion (:D) he should be running in the triumph. He can take in aintree afterwards if he so choses.

Haha same here, no bias at all!
I'll try and ask the fella in work who pointed me in his direction a few weeks back if I get a chance. He said at the time he'd got word at Leopardstown but I didn't want to pry, so I'm not sure if it was from a direct source or a mates independent pick etc. Either way I'll be thanking him for mentioning him as I backed Activial on Saturday.
It was a really nice win behind some potentially nice types(serious late money for Solar Impulse suggests Nicholls camp think a lot of him), and while a few of those behind were hammered by Le Rocher previously, the conditions that day were appalling.
What Fry actually said was that Fehily(the fcuker!) wasn't sure if he was a triumph horse but the fact he didn't rule it out and the fact the owners went the exact same route with Zarkandar have got to give us hope!

Regardless anyway, nice to get some serious value, looks one to follow and Fry continues to prove very effective with his good ones thus far.

Fehily will be riding a competitor for Nicholls so of course he'd come out with that (!). At least he didn't say he's not a triumph horse I suppose. I covered my antepost bet saturday but would be sweet if he went for the triumph. I guess it depends how he comes out of the race Saturday. We'll know soon enough I guess.

Firmly in the Pearl Castle fan club aswell, very suprised at some of the prices still available.

Wasn't impressed at all last week. He wasn't just hands and heels he had to get fairly serious

Le Rocher is the one I'll be backing for this. Won comfortably at Cheltenham last January and fairly versatile ground wise.

Corals have pushed activial out from 8's to 14's overnight. Not a good sign.

73/5 bf. must be 13.5 ish? Still, that move by corals is not filling me with confidence.

After going through it - Broughton & Pearl Castle level stakes against the field NRNB - any of those win and Thursday will be a good day in my books.

There's an update on Fry's horses on sportinglife.com, including activial. No news is good news....

And he's tightening up on the machine & back into 12s with Coral.

I did mention it to the chap in work who pointed him out and he doesn't know anyone connected to the horse, just got word off a 'pro' at Leopardstown.

If he doesn't go, I'll probably back calipto on the day. That race is working out well, really well.

My bad! I was backing a couple in the Byrne Group Plate at the same time as the Triumph... hopefully I will be getting the wheelbarrow ready on the Thursday :)

Activial out to 18/1 on betfair. Looks a doubtful runner, unfortunately.
