    Hi there,

I was cleaning my carbon fibre bike today and when i lifted it upside down, i could hear water floating around inside the frame. I could not see any hole or outlet to get it out. I dont want the bike heavier than it should be and i know water inside may not be good for it. How can i get this water out? Do i need to take the forks off or what?

    Thanks.

Cleaned my carbon bike a few weeks ago, emptied a cup of water out of it. Took off the fork and headset and poured it out. Will certainly be worth servicing your headset when your at it with that much water in the frame.

fairly common with carbon frames solution is to drill a hole through the bolt that holds the cable runs under bottom bracket.btw it get in though seatpost.and you dont need a big drill bit tricky job though so if you can get it to a gut that knows:cool:

worth investigating how its getting in: Some frames have a small hole at the rear of where the seat post sits in the frame: I covered that hole and appears to have reduced the problem.

On my ISP TCR after every time I ride it in the wet I hold the bike up on the back wheel and a lot of water flows out of the back of the chain stays!

Or...turn the frame upside down. :pac:

Water in the frame is not something to worry about. There are a myriad of places on a typical frame where water might get in, it's not going to damage the frame. It would be a bit tricky riding on a carbon frame if water was to damage it.. It will find it's own way out.

My Fuji has a hole at the end of one of the chain stays and I tip the bike up to release any water inside. I only discovered this hole accidently!

:) I was just about to post this.

I found it, thought "WTF is this all about", thought about it and had a new admiration for Fuji designers.

Same thing in my bike (it is not a carbon fibre frame though).

Important: make sure you drain the water off after each wet ride. Otherwise the water sits in your bottom bracket. This is what damages the bearings, especially if you have the BB30 system.

I have the BB30 bottom bracket but it is fitted to a 'cylinder' which is totally sealed so there is no way of getting water from the frame into the BB.

My frame has at least seven holes for draing water. Despite this, I still get some 'sloshing around' when I turn the bike upside down for maintenence. It's driving me mental. All I know is that it seems to be at the rear of the frame. I've taken out the seat post but it all seem dry there.
