Stoat swimming

    One of my trail cams picked up a stoat jumping into water and swimming away. I never associated stoats with this sort of behaviour. Does any one know if they take to water regularly?

    I have never seen it nor met anybody who has but I have read reports on it. A paper from a study group in New Zealand, I believe, commented that stoats can swim much further than previously believed. They are found on lake islands and the asumption is that they swam there.
    So, apparently they can swim but you're blessed to have seen it.

    Definitely a Stoat, very small and fast. I have a clip of a Mink in the same location and there is no comparison.

    Witnessed a stoat swim across a small stream chasing a rat whilst i was fishing one day! Happened about ten year ago, was suprised to say the least!

    I know an island Tern colony that has had predation issues that are thought to be the result of a Stoat swimming out to the island!
