    Hello

If I was to buy a 2006 BMW 5 series, would it be expensive to try and install the FACTORY fitted Bluetooth option ?

    The car already has iDrive

I had a Dension 500 installed which gives me full factory spec Bluetooth eg controllable from iDrive in my e60. Head over to Germaniks.com and have a look. Bmstuff on this site installed and supplied it for me so you could pm him.
The beauty of that system is it give you full iPod/mp3 functionality too so it's not just a Bluetooth set up. Very happy with mine, and when it comes time to sell its easy whip it back out.

Thanks for reply. So there is no other external interfaces in the car, all done through the iDrive which is perfect.

How much did this cost ?
And is it a big job ?

380 for the unit plus 60 for fitting. Mine is hidden away in the glovebox. I had factory Bluetooth in my old 3 series and it worked the same through the I drive.
It's a bit steep but the fact that you can stream your music and have USB connectivity sweetens it I think.
What kind of e60 are you going for?

I drive is standard on all E60's so that means nothing I'm afraid :(
Factory fitted Bluetooth is too expensive to retrofit due to extra modules in the boot, associated wiring and hardware plus coding.

Better off with one of the following :

    Denison
    Grom
    parrot

All of the above allow voice control, music streaming and hands free calling.

Thanks for advice. So if a parrot for example was installed, could that let me use the steering wheel controls

I've an 06 with factory bluetooth.
Go with dension, it will give you more options. The bmw bluetooth retrofit is way too expensive for what you get.
    Mark.

Yes, you fit a connects2 loom between the BMW and parrot loom.
Personally, I'd pick the Denison though.

To be honest, I'm not looking for streaming, iphone connections, voice control etc.

All I want is to have a nice Bluetooth unit that I could control via the steering wheel.

Would it be possible to get a unit that does the above and also show your phone book in the I drive ?

    No to the iDrive question.

If you want basic, get a parrot ck3100, BMW ISO loom and e60 connects2 loom.

So the parrot ck 3100 would be installed and the interface mounted on dash. Then this BMW ISO loom would go from parrot box to wherever.

If I wanted to make a call, I would use the parrot interface, correct ?

Is the loom only allowing you to answer and end calls via the buttons on multi function steering wheel or does it do something else ? Like scroll through stuff on parrot menu etc.

I'd have a chat with bmstuff on here, had him retrofit upgraded subwoofers in my E90 and his work and manner are exceptional. He won't put you wrong :)

    OP here again.

I see on ebay there are a few people selling BMW MULF Bluetooth modules.

Anyone know if these would allow Bluetooth, use of mfsw and phone book in iDrive

Yes. BUT, the MULF is only one part of the job. You need wiring, mica, and it has to be fitted in the boot and then wired to the head unit. You then have to buy all the fiddle BMW bits to connect it to your car as it has not got it from the factory. Then you have to have it coded to your car.

Depending on cost it could be workable. But here's the issue, E60 MULFs break all the time and you have no way of testing before you buy. Also, there MULF, and MULF2 so you need to see which one your car requires before buying.
