Writing a CV for 16/17 year old

    A buddy of mine is wondering what would people suggest is the best way to go about doing up a CV for a 16/17 year old. What should be put on it. Would personal details, education and work experience be enough? I'd appreciate peoples suggestions on this.

    Writing a CV for 16 year old is no different than for a 26 year old. You want to tailor it to suit the role that you are applying for. The only thing is that if there is limited paid work experience then you might have to be creative in terms of other life experiences, like clubs or sports, and highlighting how these are relevant to the role that you are applying for.

    I'm also wondering, since they are still in school should the hours that they will be available to work also be put on the CV?

    I wouldn't put it on the CV but maybe note in the cover letter that they are looking for part time work, if they can be flexible with their hours outside of school times I would say this. (like if they don't have any other obligations that restrict their availability) I wouldn't go into the details of all the hours that they can cover, that can be discussed at interview or after.
    (cover letter should be redone for each job also, addressed where possible to the person doing the recruiting).

    When handing the CV in personally, mention that you're looking for part-time work. Anyone with half a brain will realise your mate is still in school by their age. And if they don't, maybe it's best to avoid them.
