Do a search on people who have had claims with them. If the customer experience is good go with them

Cheapest by a mile for me too. Told a girl in work who was about to go with tesco and they were the cheapest for her too.

Posts above are meaningless without including car type, age and part of the country etc. I found no nonsense to be one of the most expensive when I was getting quotes last year.

Brother's insurance was up a while ago. He rang everyone.

A courier we know suggested he try a crowd called Campion (first we'd heard of them). He rang them and without any haggling or back and forthing, they gave a price that beat all the other quotes.

I'll be giving them a ring, when mine is due, too.

I was with them last year, switched to 123 this year because their cover on TPFT was much better and €50 euro cheaper. Not sure if its know but I paid my insurance by direct debit last year and they automatically renewed my insurance this year and continued to take payment by DD even after calling to cancel.

Just compare the cover. Their excess was €750 with no step back, can't drive other cars. 123 was €250 with step back and I can drive other cars

It all depends- they refused to price match a quote from AXA (which I had in writing)- so I'm with AXA instead (330, fully comp, with roadside assist). I'm driving a 2.2 litre Volvo, and have a full no-claims bonus and no penalty points.

Are "No Nonsense" not just FBD re-badged?

They're definitely an off shoot of one of the bigger insurers.

Yes, they are, specializing on certain type of cars and drivers I think. I have spoken to them in the past and they said they won't nsure 2 litre petrol Accord (male, 35, commute & recreational use only, full ncb etc cetc).

One thing about car insurance is you have to shop around and be prepared to change every year if necessary. Personally this year I found aviva online well cheaper than everyone else (>$100 cheaper) than the next quote but I must fit what they want this year.

I found FBD and no nonsense poor over the years very basic cover included for the price quoted to me but OP if they are best for you great

I also find the online insurers that have the biggest advertising campaigns to also quote with a lot of the usual extras left out which may seem fine until you have a claim and you find your NCB is not protected or you can't drive other cars or no roadside assistance. It all adds up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

Because it's insurance this is only a bargain for the OP. They won't touch me with the car I have for example.

Yep no nonsense third party fire and theft:
no windscreen/glass cover, no breakdown assist, no stepback protection

They won't insure a car that is 10 years or older, insurance companies get to pick and choose too much.

No nonsense wouldn't quote me because my car is over 10 years old.
Are chill insurance not the way to go? They just check everyone and come back with the best...

Not necessarily. My insurance was up last September and got my renewal quote from AXA. Went from €900 to €1400 (21 y/o Male, 4 years NCB) so obviously got out the phonebook and rang everywhere for a quote. Chill quoted me €850 from FBD and the person on the phone assured me 100% that this was the best quote I was going to get and to go for it. I still had a few other places to ring, including FBD directly, so said I'll get back to them. Rang FBD directly and they quoted me €715 including no claims protection and all the extras so went with that.

Moral of the story is to get the best bargain for insurance come renewal time is to ring absolutely everywhere! Don't just go with your renewal quote because it seems good or you've been with the company for a long time without checking to see what else is out there.

I'm insured with them and mine is a 99 reg car so obviously it's on an individual case not a blanket no cars older than 10 years old

Totally agree,i change my insurance company every year and have managed to get under €300 (280) for the first time with Aviva this year due to their promotion, thats fully comp with all the extras in a 1.6 petrol with full licence and full NCB,know of at least 6 other who saved substantially by going with them this year. Will be shopping around again in July as quotes vary greatly from different providers year on year

Well that came straight from the horses mouth only a couple of weeks ago, as soon as I gave the start of my reg he stopped me and said I won't waist any more of you time, nothing over 10 years, not sure on how you have managed it.

They'll do renewals (I think legally they are obliged to) but not quote for new business for vehicles over 10 years.

in my experience you need to call them all and get a quote from them. Brokers included. People give out about their quotes and "I have been with you 10 years" attitude have to understand loyalty means nothing these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

Get a broker, let them do the donkey work for you.
No harm in checking with a few companies as well.

Big time. Last year Aviva wanted to up my premium by over 100% for no reason whatsoever- just arrived in the post, renewal cost over 500 more than my last premium. Even quoting on their website was hundreds less- and phoning around got me a better policy with more cover, for less than a quarter what they quoted me to renew.........

2001 Passat estate 1.8T (150bhp). AIGeurope (broker munstergroup insurance based in Ennis) 305e comprehensive with my wife as second driver, 31yrs old, 5ncb, breakdown, windscreen, driving other cars. Non irish driver license.

first insurance with axa in 2009. 97 micra 1ltr 1600e tpft 0ncb, over 25. Changed to 01 vectra 1.6 paid another 200e. In 2010 renewal 1460e i said F.O. and went to munstergroup. They quoted 780e comprehensive, 1ncb!!! I stayed with them untill present. Interesting thing that last year i payed for my vectra 1.6 (100bhp) 560e and when changed to passat 1.8T (150bhp) they renewed for 305e :) power up - isurance price down. Me like it very much :)

Oh and after i spit axa into face i ringed 123.ie and they said they wont insure me because my NCB is lower than 3 years.

Now friend of mine: munstergroup 1580e tpft, 2002 polo 1.2ltr, he is 26yrs old, on L plate. Dont know more details but he said this is one of the cheapest around for him.

Specific car types- makes/models etc- do attract lower premia. I was told I qualified for a manufacturer specific discount (because I drive a Volvo). The presumption is that specific car types are safer in the event of an accident- and less likely to result in catastrophic claims.

No-nonsense and Liberty refused to quote for my sister recently- as her car is an 01. It would appear they are not applying their criteria in a consistent manner.

Whats the point in having a NCT if insurance companies are just going to cherry pick the type of car (and/or driver) they are willing to cover.

Your sis could do worse than bring this matter to the attention of the insurance ombudsman's office.

Less catastrophic for whom? I remember a few years back, seeing a Toyota Corolla K11 which had been hit, head on, by one of the big square Volvos, a 440 or 640 I think. It is the only rear engined Toyota Corolla I have ever seen, lucky for whoever owned it, it was parked. :)

Protection of no claims bonus is so important in the event of an accident/claim. It's bad enough being involved in an accident without a having to worry about a huge loading on your policy at renewal time.

Step back ncb protection is sh*te as in many cases you lose a greater proportion of your discount than you think.

Aig direct and Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA) both offer full ncb protection.

The ombudsman has no powers, apart from being able to force a quote, which you need 3 refusal letters for, even then the forced quote can be any figure the insurance wants to make up, he's. Nice guy to talk to but can do nothing, there is no regulation apart from the financial reg, the only requirement from them is that you have enough money in the bank to cover a certain amount in the event of lots of accidents, after that regulation is up to them selves, my other half was on to one company the other day, and was exhausted with the amount of bull questions they asked, she felt sorry for the girl asking as it was ridiculous, no other company was asking all these questions, traps I call them.

Coincidentally the following day she had a call about her renewal, she had been changed to someone else and the new crowed wanted to check some details, even though she had already received a renewal price and proposal form, they said she was down as married, she never said that, and also the area was not down, only the post code, and as such the renewal was now going up, she had given the area when asking for the quote originally, and the letter they had sent out had the area printed on it, chancers, that or we now have to pay extra for someone else's mistake, they are a law on to them selves, I mean how can I get a quote of 2 grand from one crowed and 6 hundred from some one else.

I'd double check the driving other cars coverage on that.
AIG through 25plus.ie at least cover driving other cars but when you read the Ts&Cs it states only cars <2.0L and only in "an emergency" which makes it worthless in my opinion.

i was with 123 for 2 years, then they decided to jump from 400 to 550, fully comp on a 2010 308, so i tried all the usual crowds no nonsense chill ect all wanting 500 plus
but found tesco to be the cheapest at 360 with no claims protection
clubcard points are a handy bonus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,604 ✭✭✭dave1982

Be careful with cheap insurance alot of the time the excess is high could be 500 euro you must pay yourself before you can claim, you might have no windscreen cover road side assistance cover to drive other cars.I know someone recently her car was damaged by a driver but he never reorted the damage or stopped just drove off, she rang her insurance estimate was made at 600 euro she had to pay the 1st 500.So be careful

I got a good quote from No Nonsense last august and my car is 1999 reg, no problems at all and I was a newcomer to them.

I was on to them again today trying for a quote on bahalf of my partner, her car is 04 so I wasn't sure if they would, they did, I asked about the 10 year thing and he said the other guy must have been mistaken, it's 16 years or older, anything 99 or after is fine, which might fit in with the other chap stopping me when I started with 96.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Have to say I've used them the last three years. They get the best quote and I've been with three different insurers.

Customer service I've found was fine overall, but they can REALLY drop the ball when it comes to sending in your paperwork. My first year with them they completely misplaced my forms I sent it, assured me it was grand, then I got a notice from the insurance company saying my policy was cancelled : /

Odd issue this year where my insurance went up €300 for no reason. Was paying €700 as a 24yr old male, 00 Opel Astra on provisional license. This year cheapest I could find was Allianz at €1000 as a 25year old male, with same car, extended no claims bonus.

    Bit mad.

We just got insurance with Aviva. 05 Mazda 1.6 3TS diesel a 43 year old male full NCD and myself on as a named driver. Protected NCD and lower excess of 125 all for 296 plus the usual stuff like driving other cars, breakdown assist and windscreen cover. Couldn't get close to it with anyone else. Liberty being the most expensive at 700 odd for a much lesser policy.

    Def worth shopping around.
