Rainwater dripping onto stove

    Hi,

I have an issue with my solid fuel stove. My fireplace is in the centre of the room. I have a double sided stove installed into flue using 4" to 6" adapter. There is fire cement around the adapter where it meets the flue. However, I have a problem with rainwater leaking through the fire cement onto stove on one side only. I put a Chinese hat onto top of chimney but it is still happening. The stove was not lighting today but the rainwater was still dripping down. It was so bad that it was running onto floor. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

    Cheers

    Hi Kenny,
If rain isn't getting in the top then you've a problem somewhere further down the chimney, it does sound like a lot of water.

    How old is the house?

The house was built 6 years ago but was never lived in till we bought it in September last year. The chimney cap was open to the elements for 6 years until we put last flue up and filled in chimney cap with cement.

If you've got 6 years of rain in your chimney I don't know how you'd go about getting it out as sand holds water very well. Are there signs of damp on the breast?
