Heard today from a reputable source that there may be canon cash back offers starting again at the beginning of March ... in case you're thinking of purchasing new soon.

Did the canon cashback cover new camera's? Thinking about getting another one and could hold off until March, specifically 5D Mark III.

Just to give everybody a little heads up on this, nothing to do with the offer itself but in relation to one of the shops (I won't name names but it's not Conns or Berminghams) offering this promotion. It seems that they have upped their prices on most of cash back items in less than 24 hours.

The reason I know this is that I have being saving up for a new wide angle lens and have being comparing the prices between a few different camera retailers. I had three different lenses in mind the 17-40, 16-35 and the 24-70 f4 (I know not a true wa).

Yesterday morning at about 10.30 the three lenses where priced (in the store in question) €890, €1700 and €1600 (in order of above) with no mention of a cash back deal but once the cash back deal went up the prices too went up and are now €940, €1750 and €1670.

I know that there is another thread about the price difference between online retailers and bricks and mortar retailers and that is a different argument but when a respected camera retailer is so cheeky and greedy can they really complain that a good majority of people now decide to purchase online.

P.S. Conns and Berminghams are offering the same promo and have not inflated their prices.

I was in Jessops Belfast yesterday and noticed this offer has started.

Full list of eligible products here:

Unfortunately, the 6D is not included :-(

Here's the link for anybody in Ireland

Was looking at the 5D iii at €2660 and now it's been brought up to €2780 as this store tracks the price of Amazon and that's there only reason for upping the price a week before the offer starts

So are you saying that Amazon increased price and the store followed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭Farmlife

That's what the store said, i'd doubt Amazon's price moved that much, but when your the cheapest bricks and mortar in the country you can up it by €120 if Canon are giving back €175

What store gave you the prices? I'm looking at the 24-70L, hasn't gone up in Conns but their price is pretty steep. Waiting on ISS to call me back. Can you get it online and still claim cash back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭Farmlife

Dixons, how much were you quoted for the 24-70? Both Conns and ISS have great customer service which over a period of time can make it cheeper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

    Conn's are €2400 and ISS are €2200

Whats ISS? Google says Image Supply Systems?

Also what do ye folks think of the rumors that the 5d Mark 3 is going to be replaced this year?
    Id love a 5d Mark 3!

I've a Canon 24-70 II it's an unbelievable lens, not sure if I could stomach the Irish prices though unless you're shooting for a living and can claim it on your returns.

I would doubt the 5DIII will be replaced this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭Farmlife

That could be why they just have those 3 cameras listed, the 700 is part of the US rebel series which they change every year, the 7D Mk2 had been rumoured for over a year and I heard Canon have got something in 2014 for the pro level.

Saying that I bought a 5d Mk3 yesterday, as I'm not too bothered if a new one comes out

Yeh, I heard they only cover new cameras

a 5d mkii, so far I'm loving the change

ISS have upped their price by €130 euro. Customer service aside, that's pretty bad practice. I'd rather buy it from somewhere outside Ireland.

Bermingham Cameras had double the cashback at Photofest for one day only :( I only saw this now

Wish I had spotted that too!
I was going to go with Ian Kerso/Flash Camera as I'd heard good things and prices were pretty good. Haven't heard back from him following a few emails which would leave me worried about his service.
Waiting on a call back from ISS and if they can give me the price previously quoted then I'll go with them. Otherwise I'll probably go with Calumet.

I recently bought a Canon 1D X and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II from ISS, trading in a 1D mkIV and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS. I got a great deal and also the Canon Cashback that came through this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

They called earlier and gave me slightly better than the price they gave me yesterday but still more than they quoted previously. I'll get it from Belfast for €100 less so think I'll stick with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

How long did it take to get the cash back?
I'm going to go with Calumet. Had a bit of back and fourth with Kerso in Scotland but his lack of communication and forgetting important details doesn't inspire confidence. I don't want to miss out on the cash back offer so not going to wait around for him to sort his business out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

Went with Conns in the end. They matched the Calumet price which meant I saved the £26 delivery charge.

Took 10 days first time around and over a month the second, no messing, straight into bank tho

Thanks. Thought it might be a long wait. Last time I got cash back was 2008 so can't remember. Stretching a bit financially right now so trying to figure out a rough time frame.
