I have full trailer load with old mattresses , curtains, furniture and other household items to recycle.

Is Ballymount centre open after the fire? If not, could you recommend an alternative? I live in Newcastle, co Dublin.

The fire wasn't in the Ballymount centre - it was in the Oxigen recycling plant (where the green bins are taken) - so it should be open as normal.

Always thought it was the same plant. Will see if I can find the other one

^ That's the one run by South Dublin County Council.

The one that went on fire was owned by Oxigen, a private company (who did the council's bin collections for a while, but not anymore afaik). It is also in Ballymount, but not on the same road.

Oddly, Dublin City Council's own website only lists two centres for this kind of waste, Ringsend and North Strand:

    http://www.dublincity.ie/WaterWasteEnvironment/Waste/RecyclingServices/Pages/BulkyHouseholdWaste.aspx
    and
    http://www.dublincity.ie/WaterWasteEnvironment/Waste/RecyclingServices/Pages/CivicAmenitySites.aspx

The council also runs "special collections", which you can request and sometimes they'll say ok; these would probably take most of what you have. (Last time our local area had one, the place was haunted by both neighbours wandering around and going "Oooh, nice, can I have that?" and professional rag-and-bone men picking stuff up for sale!)

Edit: the online list of what the various recycling centres can take isn't totally up to date - for instance, I went to Eamonn Ceannt Park (Sundrive Park) centre with light bulbs and they told me they no longer took them.

You'd have to look up each one of the four Dublin councils separately.

    Thanks guys.
The sdcc website kept crashing on my phone when I went to choose the recycling centre.

I will go to Ballymount and if rejected, I was told that there is another one near Swords.

Ah, thanks. Local people here go to both Ballymount and Ringsend, so I didn't realise.

Here's their site with zoomable map, OP; pity there's no obvious mobile version:

Thanks for that. I went to the centre on the map.
One thing to note: they don't allow double axle trailers in. I was allowed in at the end as an exception for a same charge as van (50€), but was told not to come back with a double axle.

    Thanks for your input.
