Im in the market for a new keyboard. What I cant decide on is the whole mechanical vs membrane. Can anyone share their opinions on the two is a mechanical keyboard worth an extra 50euro in your opinion?

I got a mechanical keyboard a couple years back for the first time and never looked back.

THIS is what I have. Love it.

Went mech around a year ago, won't be going back.

I use Brown at the moment, but I'm going to be switching to Blue soon-ish.

FYI, all mechanical keyboards will be louder than membrane, as a rule of thumb. Browns are pretty quiet relative to other switches (notably Blues and Greens).

And what is it thats better? Do you find gaming better, faster or more precise?

    Might I suggest this?

It's not ideal, but it's as good as you'll get.

I just prefer Blues. They feel nicer, and more defined, than Browns do.

In short yes, without a shadow of a doubt.

Mechanical keyboards work so that when you press down on a key you only have to have it half pressed for the action to be recognised. Everything feels much better and there's also less "fat finger" because of how the keys are designed.

They're fairly expensive for day today use typing (although definitely better than a standard keyboard) but if you're gaming (be it at any level or scale) you'd be absolutely and not getting one. It's pretty hard to describe how much better they are but you'll never hear anyone say they got a mechanic keyboard for gaming and then went back. It never happens for a reason.

As you said; faster, more precise, quicker, efficient.

Personally I love the sound too but if anyone else is the room they strongly disagree.

I paid 140 euro for a mechanical keyboard (Qpad mk85) about a year ago. It was a lot of money for a keyboard at the time but I don't regret it one bit. I could never go back to a dome membrane keyboard. They just feel horribly mushy too me now.

I got this one a few months back. Definitely feels nicer than the old Dell keyboard I had. The features are good too: backlighting, n-key rollover, and 1000 Hz polling rate. In my case I also wanted a more compact keyboard so the size suited me better as well (keys aren't any smaller, it just combines the arrow keys and numpad into one section).

One thing I did notice with the mechanical keyboard. When I had N-key rollover enabled, I couldn't get into the BIOS during boot. As far as I can tell the keyboard wasn't functional until the windows login screen appears. I went back to the default (6-key rollover) and it's all fine again.

I never thought there would be much of a difference but I got a razor one off a friend and I could never go back. They are just better all round

Razer Blackwidow, Logitech G710+, Corsair K90/95... Depends what else you're looking for: Switch type, backlighting, etc.

I'm considering selling mine as do a lot of of Excel work and would like the number pad separate from the arrow keys instead of constantly having to flick the number lock on and off. Its a cm storm to with brown switches, delighted with it otherwise, if I didn't do a lot of numbers work I wouldn't dream of changing. Required solid construction too

I have the Logitech G710+ and love it! Its pricy but really good quality. Has a back light and macro keys. Also, unless you are hitting the keys really hard its not that loud, its noticeable louder then the previous keyboard I had [Logitech G15] but not unbearable or anything.

Pretty unanimous that there great. I thinking of a corsair k70? Looks good and has macros on the left side like I want.

The one I linked on page 1 (on phone now) is the Steelseries 6gv2. Don't ask, just buy. Phenomenal board.

Wait for the thermaltake Poseidon to go for sale around Europe, should be about 50-60 quid if I remember correctly with brown/red/blues, it's up to you has backlighting everything. Look into it, cheapest you'll find and as good as one 3 times its price
