Going private to consultant

    Saved for 5 months .Going private to consultant as waiting list in 3 years ....Can I get the medication on medical card?

    You would need to get your GP to transfer the prescription onto a GMS form if they are willing to.

    Also do i have to pay the consultant for follow up visits? What the industry standard for that?

    Yes you have to pay him every time you see him.

    Um yes, unless he is willing to transfer you to the public system you will have to pay him for follow up visits.

    The same amount or less? Sorry about all the questions just unsure that's all

    I have to see him every month for my medication for 4 months

    Attending a private consultant is the same as going to a solicitor. There's no fixed amount. They usually charge by the hour usually €100+. If you having already comitted to one you should shop around to see who gives you the best price.
    Be very care full and make sure the Secretary includes everything in the quote, they can be quite vague and then slap you with a monster bill.o

    Some have reduced fee's for repeat visits but not all... I'd ring and ask.

    You will have to pay for follow-up consultations. Clarify this with said consultant. Also note that if he took blood from you or arranged x-rays for you, you will have to pay those consultants as well.
