Hey all, Sorry if this has been posted before, I was going to try the Athletics\Running forum but thought better placed here.

anyone recommend a good trainer\runner for general gym use. Id do the odd 5/10k run (rarely) would be mostly for use in group classes in the gym and also for playing squash.

I wear a pair of flat soled shoes like cons on lifting days but these would be for everything else really, i do 2 circuit training type classes 2/3 a week. Grip is a big thing with the squash, currently use an old pair of new balance I bought years back and sliding all over the place, tis a danger really.

    Cheers.

Asics for running. They've seen me through a few marathons and 10k runs.

Never had a problem with them for grip when I play squash either.

I had a pair of Asics years ago and hated them, could have just been the specific model but turned me off the brand altogether.

    Which asics?
There are many different types of Asics runners for all different types of Running (racing flats, track spikes, trail shoes, minimalists, trainers, lightweight trainers etc). Then there are different types of the above depending on your gait and arch (neutral, cushioned, support and several different levels of motion control).

The same above goes for Nike, adidas, Reebok etc.
Saying 'Asics' is the best shoe is frankly a rubbish answer.

get a gait analysis done, eleverys, amphibian king and many more places will do this for you, this will help select the best runner for your foot.

If you'd read the title of the thread, the OP is looking for an all-rounder. Not track spikes, not trail shoes. An all-rounder that will do for the odd 5k or 10k and non-lifting gym work.

So a mid-range runner would do.

But I've found the Asics brand the best and most comoftable fit so I made that recommendation.

If the OP wants more specifics, then something like the Asics Gel-Ikiaia.

Granted you can take spikes and trail runners out; but there are still probably hundreds of different Asics trainers (the ones you mentioned I had to google).
Some of them will suit OP, some won't. As a neutral runner with high arches if I were to run in asics kayano or the Asics Gel-Ikiaia as you suggest, I would get injured pretty quick.
If i were to use the Nimbus (or similar) however I would be fine.

As ted1 suggests getting a gait analysis and proper fitting would be a smart move. I would also recommend Amphibian King but not elverys.

I can only base the recommendation on what I have experience of. the OP said they would rarely do a 5k/10k anyway and that the runner would be mostly for classes in the gym. Personally, I wouldn't think a gait analysis is entirely necessary for that. But the OP can go for it if it's not too much bother.

I found my new balance minimal shoes great for all lifting as well as light runs (5k).

I'd recommend Nike free 3.0. Great minimalist runner and a great all rounder.

I get them from chainreactioncycles and.I'm on my 4th pair. Done 2 marathons in them and I wear the ones I've finished running in around the gym and walking about too.

It's popular with Crossfitters, from what I know so probably does exactly what you want!
