Can you tell the bus driver to turn off the radio?

Just curious. The driver of the bus I get had the radio on full blast the whole way from Dublin to Offaly, it was really annoying and I suspect I wasn't the only one ticked off by it.Are you entitled to tell him to turn it down/off?

Most of the other drivers if they do turn on the radio only have the speaker in their are turned on and don't inflict their choice of music/talk on everyone else.

You can certainly ask I'm sure but reactions would likely vary.

This kind of thing used to get to me but I gave in and got a pair of headphones so I can listen to what I like when the need arises, one arshole after another on public transport.

    Are you entitled...

    No.

    Sense of entitlement? IMO, definitely...

It's worth a try anyway. I doubt he'll see your request on here if he's still driving.

Maybe i am wrong on this but i thought i read somewhere that the drivers are not meant to listen to nusic, the point of the radio was to communicate with the passengers.

Entitled to ask yes, entitled to tell no.

Why wouldn't you ask? Drivers can't hear what it sounds like down through the bus, over the sounds of the engine, air conditioning, etc. as well as being that much further from the speakers. I'd often be sitting in a bus while its idling in the station, and the radio would be at an ok volume, but when we set off, you couldn't hear it at all, I'd have to tell the driver to turn it up.

I have memories of getting the school bus every morning in rural Ireland and the driver would blare IRA rebel music over the speakers. The music was so loud that you had to shout to speak to your friend. I find this type of music quite distasteful to this day as a result. Oh, and the driver used to smoke while driving too, filling the bus up with a cloud of carcinogenic fumes. It was like being in a pub at 8am every morning.

I can't blame Bus Éireann for this one though, the school bus was a decrepit old coach "on hire" to Bus Éireann. I get quite angry at it now thinking back, but we were only kids and who were we to question authority figures. Funny how a thread can bring back hidden memories.

Just meant there's quite a lot of them, not tarring everybody, not my way if you'd had a look.

And yet no other bus company in the world has music playing. You dont hear it on planes or Dublin Bus. I have emailed Bus Eireann on this and got the usual non answer. Unfortunately Aircoach have also copied this bad idea.

Is it too much to ask to be left alone without listening to rubbish from 2FM for hours? You cant read and you cant sleep.

I wonder do they have permission from
    http://www.imro.ie/ to play music?

I've often heard Joe Duffy moaning on Dublin bus. You would not hear it if you downstairs though or standing near the front so there is a way of not making everyone listen to it

I remember being forced to listen to the death notices on the school bus at 8 am EVERY school morning on a radio with the shíttest signal. Things were bad enough, never mind listening to the deaths!!
