    Hi

Gonna buy a bike this week and commute to work around 8k each way. I am new to road biking and am thinking about getting one of the above as a bit strapped for cash. In Halfords these are the following prices:

    Zelos-€319
    Virtuoso-€450
    TDF-€390

Let me know what you think and which you would consider the best? Cheers

    Guz

I got the zelos at Christmas for commuting.

It's grand for 10km each way. Bit heavy and I find I run out of gears once I get above 50+kmh.

For e300 though it's grand, does the job fine.

Just check the bike before 1st cycle, the lads in Halfords hadn't tightened half the screws/bolts etc on mine

My husband bought the tdf 2 years ago , finds it a nice bike , uses it during the winter for cycling ,and never gave him trouble . but make sure that the staff fit you and secure everything on the bike before you leave.

I had the Virtuoso for awhile. Found it a very good bike, except for the tyres which were terrible and had to be replaced within a few 100km. I regularly see these bikes for sale on adverts.ie so worth keeping an eye there and you might get better value. Also Halfords occasionally have a sale and the tdf can be as low as €300.

If you have a family member who has axa insurance on their car you can ask them to use their card and you'll get ten per cent off either bike.....

Got the Zelos im March 2013, very happy with it. I do 60-120 km spins, it's a bit heavy bur excellent for what I wanted, i.e. something to get fit/lose weight on. I've done a few thousand km on it in the past year and nothing has gone wrong so far.

You might want to try a road bike first on a commute, the drop down handlebars aren't the easiest to get used to if you're starting off. Maybe consider a nybrid as well for the upright sitting position.
