Me personally I am because I;m livin it up in amsterdam in my first job out of college and there's literally 5 coffee shops on my door step because I really like coffee.

If you do think so? - Why?

Coffee is the reason I get up in the morning. And the reason I earn money - to buy more coffee.

Weed, now that stuff will steal your ambitions. "Cancer of the Will", as some people call it.

Loads of coffee shops where I work too but it's a waste of money. Instead there's a kettle in the office with a jar of coffee so yeah technically free coffee, I've made it ma :p

5 Coffee shops 'literally' on your door step must be a nuisance. I hate people
that hang around doorways blocking the way.

I'm not living it yet but maybe in 5-6 years I'll have it.

There's not too much in life I need. A middle-line apartment, enough money to not freak out about bills and dine out every so often, a big comfy bed, and I will be a very content person indeed.

I voted yes but suppose life is never going to be perfect in every way, I am at the happiest time in my life that I can remember and everything is going very well for me in every way,so it's never going to be perfect but it's a lot better than it was, for me anyway.

It's nice that you're able to take pleasure in the little things OP, I think most people want to feel they've achieved big things, and wouldn't be happy unless they do. Like me for example, I could look at my life and say great, I've a great boyfriend, I'm reasonably comfortable with a full time permanent public sector job, I'm healthy, and have nephews and a niece that are great. Or I could (and do) look at my life and see misery from my constant anxiety, extreme self esteem issues, my lack of direction in ambition, and the fact that it's only Tuesday, and say Jesus I'm not sure about things at all.

Good for you OP, good that you can look at things that simple and enjoy.

I am, I have a great life as far as I am concerned, but to some people it would not be much at all that's the thing, it about how you perceive it, some people will never be happy and the worst thing is they don't seem to realise how negative they are despite having lots of good things in their life they cant be thankful for some reason.

Even when I had very little I was happy I was born like that and have always been a happy upbeat type of person, so maybe it is a question of temperament.

I am living the life that makes me happy. There are aspects to it that annoy - offend - or are belittled by others who feel theirs is somehow better or more moral or full of quality.

At the end of the day however the only person who has to enjoy my life is me - and I doubt I could be much happier than I am.

what is the perfect life? I am starting a good job, done well career wise, single, no ties, family in good health, have seen a lot of the world, been told im a decent skin and good looking...But also suffer from depression/anxiety..not bad but not the perfect life i'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,337 ✭✭✭lazeedaisy

I suppose one day i will look back and this will be "the good bit".

Its not what i planned, too many external decisions have changed my life to the extent that its not what i hoped,

but i do have a job, a comfy bed, money coming in, I suppose i just want the icing on the cake - but then I will find out I am a diabetic - murphy's law

them's the breaks - to each their own,

if you are happy and know it - enjoy it,

The best family I could wish for
Some very close friends in the truest sense of the word
Several friends with whom I can share great times
A job I enjoy and I'm good at
Not loaded but comfortable financially (no great expenses, no debts)
I'm a flawed person for sure but I know my positive character traits

All in all, very content with my lot :)

If I'd another room in my house, with a power rack in it and all the necessary equipment, I could die fulfilled.

As it is, I'm pretty happy.

When I was in my first job out of college I thought I was living the perfect life too. That all changes pretty rapidly when the monotony, and the realization that this could well be how you spend the next 40 years, sets in.

My life involves commuting, so no. I'd also like a dog.

The rest is pretty good though. I don't have any money, but I'm far happier than when I had more money than sense.

You're right in that there's definitely an element of grass is always greener. But let's just say that the whole 9-5 (9-630 in reality), commuting and living for the weekend isn't really how I imagined my life would be up until I got out of college. ;)

I voted no, life can never be perfect.
Relationship issues, flu, car wont start, short on money this week, itchy balls.. there will always be something.
Sure I have all of the above and its only Tuesday.

The grass is always greener on the other side is the story of my life. I'll be happy when I do 'X', I'm not. I'll be happy when I change 'Y', still not happy. I'll be satisfied if go there......and so on.

Wrecks my head. I've decided to take each day as it comes instead of wishing my life away. I am a lot happier nowadays then I was when I was younger but I always yearn for something more. :P

In the next 2 months ill be married, mortgage free in a 3 bedroom house, with a lovely pug, lovely son and perfect husband.

I need to realise how lucky I am, I'm more depressed than usual lately :( and I definitely shouldn't be. I have nothing to complain about yet spend all my time crying, lying in bed, worrying people around me etc.

To be honest i feel terribly oppressed, i am painfully middle class. I sometimes stand at the bus stop with my friends when a group of guys pull up in a car and hurl abuse at me.

Sometimes when crossing the road i have to check myself, cover up what i am wearing and i hate myself for that.

I have one of those friends who is loud, you all know what i mean, we would be sitting in a train and he is just over the top, and i am saying to myself just tone it down. And i hate myself for that also.

I pick up the newspaper every day and read the articles, i listen to the panels on television and the talk shows, With people who dont know what its like to be me, making decisions for us telling us things are not right.

You see i am a Man Utd fan. :(

Depression isn't about being ungrateful for what you have. It's the thief of happiness though, so I hope you have help.

Hey would you consider going to see your gp for a chat to explain how you feel? It doesn't matter how good your life may seem financially or anything else, if your depressed it clouds over everything else. I suffer it too like you and a mix of medication with psychology sessions have really helped me enormously. You don't have to suffer on, you deserve to be emotionally content, we all do.

Well, yes and no. My passion is travelling, and in my definition the perfect life is being able to travel all the time. But as travelling isn't exactly the cheapest thing you can do, the way I have chosen to live life is to to compromise and take mini "retirements" every time I build up enough funds to travel for at least 5 months. Was most recently in SE Asia after college. Next up, Australia after my 9 month work contract is up :)

I'm content. My life is not perfect by any means. Without sounding like a cliched smug-head, I really get pleasure from the simple stuff like walking, eating, acting the eejit...even reading on my commute to work. I genuinely feel a sense of gratitude to have a job, my health and people in my life who love me. I don't take any of these things for granted ever. I'm very happy to be alive. I'm also very grateful for my mental health, particularly when I read about other people's lives on here. I really feel very lucky.
