    Hi everyone,

I have an antique pocket watch from the 1800's, but need to sell it due to financial circumstances.

Where would be an appropriate place to go? I've tried adverts, but to no avail. Also went to an auctioneer on Francis St. & they weren't very helpful!

Is there anywhere you can go & try sell goods for a small fee?

    Appreciate any help!

Not every pocket watch it worth a lot, unless there's something unusual about yours.

    Thanks for the response!

I can post an adverts link, but would that be considered spamming?

I had it priced by Dawson's for 800+

    It's a Waltham watch

You should try some of the jewellery shops - make sure you go to one that stocks antique jewellery.

You've certainly had plenty of tyre kickers. :D

You would be better off putting it into an auction - Weldon's of Temple Bar or O'Reilly's of Francis Street are both reputable salerooms that have regular sales of watches, jewellery etc.

Adverts is full of saps...some peopel spent thier day asking questions and making offers they've no intention of follwing through on and there's no penalty for timewasters.

My advice, like above is to sell it in a specialist auction house or get in touch with a watch collectors site and see if anybody wants to but it.

Thanks for the responses everyone! :)

I know adverts all too well! (great if you wanna trade things tho!)

I'll try those places tomorrow. I've been reluctant ever since I was offered under €200 by an auction house. I understand they have to make a profit, but rent is more than that!

Auctioneers sell on commission and you should agree a reserve price with them in advance of the sale - if the sale price is not reached the item is returned to the you. If it sells, the you're charged a commission - agreed in advance - and the % varies from one Auctioneer to the next. The reserve shouldn't be a problem for you as you have already had the watch valued.
