Clamping, what tools do I need?

I've just been informed by letter that clamping is to be introduced in the apartment complex where I live.

I am an owner occupier and fully up to date with my management fees, I attend every AGM, EGM.

I've no idea under whose authority the managing agent is introducing clamping. There was no vote on it at any meeting.

I'm totally against clamping on private property as a matter of principle. Although I am fully up to date with my fees I know mistakes happen and I am not willing to pay a shower of thugs like NCPS an extortionate fee for illegally clamping my car or the car of any of my visitors.

So, what do I need to remove a clamp? I want to have the tools at my disposal.

Probably an angle grinder and a long lead .... Or maybe a serious bolt cutters, grinder is probably cheaper..

Thank you, can you tell me the name of that device and where to buy one in Dublin?

Also, is there a stealthy option as possibly I'll be de-clamping in plain view.

Consaw!! 200-300 second hand on donedeal or adverts.ie! Safer than an angle grinder IMO!! Plenty second-hand in Dublin!! Very noisy however so it wont be inconspicuous!!

Consaw, it will be as stealthy as a 250cc 2 stroke bike from the same manufacturer. :D

Why would you spend money on a tool that you might not need, in an effor to avoid a fine that you havent even gotten yet?

I wonder how many of these hard men actually follow through on removing the clamp, or is it just internet fantasy for most of them?

That's the tool for the job OP.

And in the interests of balance, fairness and Health & Safety, make sure you wear full PPE:

    - Safety Helmet
    - Goggles
    - Ear Muffs
    - S3 Spec Safety Boots

    :D

Somebody said on a previous thread that Sam Hire do a good angle grinder for approx €15 a day to rent. Easier than buying imo

Depends how much use someone expects to get out of it, I suppose. In this case, very little, if any would be my guess.

Absolutely. Makes no sense to spend more than the fine just to have the tool lying around.

Unless of course the OP plans on getting clamped a lot.

With NCPS only... Occam's Razor. the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected. Hence, lock-pick.

Not a county council clamp though, as it would be Illegal.

Renting a angle grinder when your car is immobilised is tricky and the hire shop could be shut. Angle grinder and extension lead are handy to have and could be both got cheap. AG's n lidl form time to time for about 30 quid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭BMJD

how about a cheque book, it's your own fault bro!

nya j/k a good bolt cutter should do the trick

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,484 ✭✭✭username123

I'm a woman, I like to be prepared, I'm against clamping on private property in principle. I don't have time to wait around if my car is illegally restrained. I'm sure the tool cost will be split among a number of like minded neighbours here.

It is NCPS. IMO a shower of extortionate thugs. I've never been clamped btw, I'm a law abiding citizen but I did not agree to this being introduced at my home, was never asked, cannot sell up and move elsewhere due to negative equity, so I intend to be a good little Boy Scout and Be Prepared.

Is there an alternative to extension lead, can such a device be run off the cars power? May not be parked near a power point.

Youre an owner occupier; you ARE the management company. If you are so opposed to clamping then get some likeminded neighbours together, call a management company meeting and have it discussed properly. Cutting off clamps is not going to make the issue go away. Deal with it properly.

I fully intend to. I'm absolutely furious about this. I do not know how this was passed without a meeting. But I intend to find out.

Not unless you get a small petrol generator or a consaw :). Otherwise get big bolt cutters if there is a few of you's chipping in.

Why are you worried about getting clamped? if you own the car-space why should you be clamped, what if someone parked in your spot illegally, wouldn't you like the clampers nab them?

So whenever you see a clamp related topic you don't bother to read the post, you just assume the OP is in the wrong and give that same stupid response?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,237 ✭✭✭darragh o meara

I cut through similar chain this afternoon with a Bosch cordless grinder and a1mm stainless steel slitting disc. The grinder only cost 130 quid and has plenty of poke for the job.

I hear the lock is the weakest point of the clamp :) plus it's the cheapest part to replace should you get caught.

You are all going about it the wrong way. I showed you the easy way, and what you are doing is diminishing your legal right to disable the clamp.

If you use a con-saw or similar, you are damaging property regardless. The whole legal point in this, is to remove the clamp without damage. It's not rocket science, it just takes a few minutes to do it legally and without damage. then you are ok.

    What's their own fault ???
The Op has not been clamped...did you even read this thread ?
Are you related to Powerpants ????

...and a cheque book is not much use when most clamping companies will only accept a credit card.

    .

Parking somewhere that's not their spot at some future date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Pedro K

Just keep a dehumidifier inside the car and an umbrella on the bonnet so they can't clamp you for bad weather... As some would almost have you do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭TheHappyChappy

    dude

    start reading the op

I've a van full of tools designed to munch metal. I get a call every now and then for a favour. Who am I to refuse?

O.P, for the ultimate, stealthiest, silent, no sparks, irresistible metal muncher, that needs no leads, plugs or anything, get a Milwaukee portable bandsaw -18v. Very, very small, totally portable, silent, cuts anything, literally anything and you can bung it in the boot. Yours cheap enough off e-bay and the one battery will do you nicely. Apart from my own, I've never seen another, which mystifies me as they are an absolute weapon of a tool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,313 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

    36" bolt cutters.

We don't have spots. It's unassigned parking. This is being brought in to force non payers of mgt fees. I don't agree that clamping is an appropriate measure for non payment of fees.

My fees are paid up, but I don't want it to cost me money to phone a clamping company everytime I have a visitor and/or run the risk of a mistake being made, because there is no appeals system with these thugs.

Plus, this has just been sprung on me by letter this evening. No AGM, no discussion, nothing.

Some people will comment without reading op and leave stupid remarks

    Leave them to their stupidity

    Your situation is very annoying

all the best in your struggle

they are an absolute weapon of a tool.

Had to read this a few times. First I thought you were saying that anyone who owned one was a tool! I understand now though what you meant :D
