    Hi guys,

Just came home this evening to discover my free to air box is not picking up any signals from the Astra 2A satellite.....anyone know what is the cause of this problem and how I can remedy it???

Urgent assistance required as otherwise I will be stuck watching Irish channels for the evening :-(

Are all the channels missing from all satellites at 28 degs east?
Is there any signal strength/quality meter readings?

BBC has already moved to 2E

That's correct but there was no frequency change. The OP's problem is probably dish, LNB or cabling related.

Isn't 2E using the same frequencies that were used on 1N? The changes won't affect anyone here or in the UK.

The problem will be with the OP's dish setup.

Yes, agreed. I've been too involved on behalf of an expat in S France.

Thanks for the replies guys....but honestly....I've no idea what half is being said...I admit that I don't have any understanding of satellite dishes and signals....my dish was set up a few years ago to receive signals from Astra A2....I've tried scanning the other satellites that are availablebut to no avail !! I don't think it's my dish or box that is the issue!

If the signal has changed direction...would it mean that I need to readjust my Sat dish?

Yes..all channels missing. And no...there is no signal strength monitor...

Basically what the guys are saying is that there are some changes to the satellites at the moment but that shouldn't affect anyone here in Ireland.

If you have lost all channels it implies a problem with your own setup. If the dish and cables look OK bring your box to a friends house with a working dish. That way you can see if it is your box at fault or the dish/cables at home.

Why? The dish only needs to move slightly to lose signal, you may not see how little it has moved.

The cables to the LNB on the dish may have become loose. The LNB on the dish could be faulty.

Have you checked the cable to the receiver to ensure it's securely connected?

Nothing has 'changed direction': just a replacement satellite has recently moved into position & services are being transferred.

It's a complete red herring as far as your problem is concerned.

Ok......lol....all the above is true .....:-(

I know I live in a very elevated exposed area and we are after a lot of wind/rain over the last few weeks so yes...the dish potentially could of moved but....it was working find last night and today has been a really calm non - windy day....so I just think it's abit weird....

Maybe I should wait until tomorrow or next day and if no improvement then I guess I'll have to call someone out....as I wouldnt be the type of girl that would be climbing on the roof to adjust a dish :-P

Thank you for your advice tho :-D

As Gerry suggested above would it be possible to test the receiver at a neighbour's/friend's house?
Have you checked the cabling to the receiver to ensure it hasn't become loose/disconnected?

your first step is to tell us the actual make and model of recieiver, then we can go from there, otherwise its all guess work.

Well guys.....great news......I did another channel scan and this time it was able to get a signal and pick up on the FTA channels :-)....however, some channels...particularly the ITV channels...are getting some interference and losing the signal but then come back on again...it's erratic! But I don't mind ...I'm not really an ITV fan :-P

So...it probably was maybe weather related! But thank you all very much for your replies...ye have been so good :-D

Weather related damage, I would think, not 'rain fade' on signals.

Yes, the weather has probably moved your dish slightly out of alignment.
At some point it may have to be realigned to get all the channels back.

    Gone where???

Op your problem is most likely dish related if you're not recieving the itv channels (Astra 1n)
