    Hi;)

My instructor told me i only need to check blind spots when changing lanes/overtaking. but how about turning left? what if a cyclist is on the my left blind spot when i want to turn left from a major road to a minor road?

    Thank you ;)

Think of making a turn as changing a lane, and check your blind spots any time you're deviating from "straight ahead". (Check when turning right too, or moving over a centimetre to pass a parked car). Cyclists will usually come up your left, but a motorbike could come up either side of you.

As a cyclist who would be mindful of reckless & dangerous drivers out there; when driving I always look out for all on bikes as they can appear on your blind-spot at any time.
Be mindful of all when driving. The car can be very harmful & dangerous and while you might feel safe and secure inside one, you should always be mindful of others who are not as 'safe or secure', when you are on the road.

I overheard recently "always assume the next person you meet on the road is an idiot" but never forget the safety checks your instructor will go through with you,

    Always, always, always.

We all pick up enough bad habits over the years but checking mirrors before turning is a good habit to get into and may one day save you from hurting someone or getting hurt yourself.
