Would anyone here know what's wrong this iphone.
It's a friends phone and it's acting very weird.

There is no sound (alerts or in phone calls)
When you press the power button the flash light comes on.
The light goes on an off when you shake the phone.
When you play a song it just starts skipping through all the songs.

Here's a video of it,not great but you might be able to make out what it's doing.

OP i would recommend getting your friend to back up their iphone, then restore the device to new. if the issue continues at this point then it more than likely will be hardware related.

Backed up and restored a few times, no joy unfortunately.
If hardware related, what are the options?

If its hardware related then it will need to be looked at. now depending on if its in or out of warranty is the next question.

If its out of warranty then you have a few options:

    1. back to apple at a cost of €161 (out of warranty fee)

    2. back to point of purchase - either mobile insurance or consumer law

    3. take it to a repair shop

I also have problems with my iPhone 4.
I have it 2 years and in the last few weeks the home button doesn't always respond and quite a few times when I touch the screen to do something it just doesn't respond or is very slow.
Is it possible it's wear and tear?
    Any thoughts?
