If your take home is around 500 and you are working 5 days and you have no other means and she can show looking for and available for work then she gets approx 108 per week.
If not available or looking for work then you apply for FIS

Just bear in mind that the JSA claim will of course expose your partner who must satisfy the GSW requirement ( genuinely seeking work ). Dont know your situation but that might be a problem with the kids ?

Thanks dodzy she has been looking for work like myself but the problem now is that i will be taking the car to work so she would have no way off getting to a job...living out in the sticks and no public transport

Also be aware that its your gross pay less prsi, pension and union deductions that is assessed. USC and tax paid are not disregarded for means testing. For FIS its your nett (take home pay) that is assessed.

Thanks eastbono so which do you think is the better option

You can apply for both and you will be advised of the better option. SW will always pay what is the better rate for you. You may also be able to get both. If I remember correctly its best to apply for FIS first and get that awarded and then for your partner to apply for jsa. When your FIS renewal comes about any money your spouse is getting from JSA will be taken into account but for about 1 year you could have the advantage of getting both.

If I can remember the criteria correctly then you will def receive €108 on FIS and your spouse should receive €135 pw on Jsa.... I am going to double check the jsa part and get back to you tomorrow. Now you will only be able to get both payments up until your FIS renewal as your spouses payment will put you means in excess for FIS. I will confirm this and get back tomorrow...unless someone else on here can clarify the situation.

You seem to be in the know, if my take home pay was 380 what would the other halves jsa be with 3 kids

Also any links to where it's worked out

Your gross pay less deductions of PRSI, Pen,Union etc, say (460 approx ??) less 20 per day worked up to 3 days max deduction (€60) * 60%. So 400*60% = €240 means per week. Take this from the other half's payment.

    So, 188 + 124.80 + (29.80 * 3) - means = 160 approx for her JSA payment, I think! I'm sure Eastbono will be along with the correct numbers :)

    More info here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/work_and_jobseekers_allowance.html

As for FIS, 703 per week is the 3 child threshold. Less your 380 * 60%, will give you a FIS weekly payment of approx €193 per week

    Cheers dodzy

Sorry Saucy, screwed up. Took your 380 as a baseline. Its more, as it's 380 plus tax & USC. I've re-jigged the calculation. Eastbono will confirm !

Sorry Saucy. My head is all over the place. For some reason, I had the OPs gross in my head. Anyway, you will have the figures so the formula is easy. Hope it all works out for ya eitherway ;)

    Hi Churchtown,
You should apply for FIS first and have it in payment and then your partner should apply for jsa. I was slightly out (well a fair bit out) on what she would get on jsa. Going on a gross figure of 530E she should get €77pw approx as well as you getting FIS but when it comes up for you FIS renewal then her €77 will be assessed for means also and the dept will advise you which will be best for you at that stage. I would like to know how you get on.

    Eastbono

Lou if you like you can apply for your partner to be your dependent.
Then your weekly income would be
    €188+
    €124+
    €102=
    €414
    So a few extra euros.
Ring disability allowance and ask them to send you a dependent form.
    Congrats on your upcoming nuptials!
