Catering on Lufthansa DUB-FRA?

We're flying Lufthansa from Dublin to Frankfurt next week. I originally assumed that they don't serve meals and a quick check of my booking details seems to confirm this, but it's not 100% certain. If they do meals then I have a special diet meal to order.

Can anyone confirm what sort of catering is available on this route?

    Thanks,

    z

    Hi,

I'm a frequent flyer on this route. They normally just serve a sandwich, sometimes with an orange or a small piece of chocolate. You also get a free drink (water, tea, wine, fruit juice etc). You can ask for free refills which is pretty nice!

Short haul inter Europe flights do not usually cater for special meals. There is one item for everyone. Bring something to eat yourself.

the food lufthansa offer is normally a token effort so if you have hunger, regardless of your allergic or religious disposition, you'll need to eat beforehand or bring something with you.

And, if connecting in Frankfurt (or Amsterdam either for future reference) late in the evening then dont expect to get ANYTHING AT ALL foodwise available at the airport as all food outlets will be closed behind security out on the piers and even in the central areas they do not remain open till all flights are gone.
I sent a letter of complaint about the lack of service there once, but unfortunately the lack of service at Frankfurt airport extends to answering complaints so I never got anything back from them.

Munich on the other hand has catering outlets in all piers open till the last flight leaves, but theres a reason I suppose why one airport wins best airport in europe, and the other is a kip that is best dealt with by avoiding.

The driest sandwich I have ever eaten was on the Lufthansa DUB-FRA flight.

Thanks all. Yeah, we would normally (and will) bring stuff with us to eat. It just occurred to me that LH - being an old-skool airline - might actually serve food of some form as part of the service.

We arrive about 2100. Does anyone know will there be anywhere in the shopping area open for a bite or even a Spar-type place for a snack? We're staying in one of the hotels in the centre and I imagine they will have something.

Outside of security there's plenty of options. You'll be grand.

Just the connecting passengers (ya know, sort of the core business proposition of a hub airport!) are left to wilt away hungry behind security waiting for their delayed onward flight late in the evening. Even a poxy vending machine with crisps would be a start.

When was the last time you flew through Frankfurt out of interest?
I've flown a few times quite late from there recently and there was plently of outlets open. I've gotten food there everytime before my flight.
Also "a kip"........that's strange, I find it a really clean and modern airport. Car-park is the worst thing bout it in fairness

Agreed the catering on any short haul flight is dismal. Even in business it's normally a token effort. In economy you're lucky to get any at all related to food.

Calling FRA a kip is a bit extreme though and not accurate in my experience. It might be lacking a bit of soul but it's clean, modern and very efficient.

if you are using the car park then you are not a transfer passenger and thats my point.

If you are landing into Frankfurt late (which means your previous flight was an hour or 2 before, and god knows when youve had anything to eat before that if youve had a busy day) and waiting on a connecting flight, you cannot go and explore the airport on the chance that maybe in a different part of the airport theres something open. You need to stay at the gate or within a couple of 100m of it, and you defintely cannot go through security to the arrivals area where you know theres food to be had.
Indeed if you are arriving or departing from Frankfurt you may be able to grab something, but as a connecting passenger this is not the case.

If you can list me the outlets that are open after 10pm on the departure piers I'd be more than delighted to congratulate Frankfurt airport on their service improvements (but from a quick search of their food outlet list myself, everything starts shutting up at 7 or so, with everything gone by 9.30 or 10 at the very very latest. )

Why are you on about connecting flights? The poster said they are on the DUB-FRA route and staying in Frankfurt city centre. You seem to be missing the point here. There are plently of late food outlets open throughout Frankfurt airport. A huge McDonalds, a few resterurants, couple of bars all open when I was flew there 2 weeks ago (10pm at night). There was even a little place selling ice-cream, and I remember thinking to myself who wants ice-cream at this hour!
Anyway considering you never answered my question about when you last flew there I would imagine it's been a while based on your replies thus far.

why am I on about connecting flights, because thats why many Irish (and others) use Frankfurt for.
Even for destinations that theres direct flights from Dublin, you can get more convienent times and sometimes a cheaper price (during peak summer season when aerlingus is making their profits) by connecting in Frankfurt.
EDIT: just looked it up and Frankfurt has the highest amount of transfer passengers in Europe with 55% of passengers transferriing so if you want to presume anything then you need to presume that someone going to Frankfurt is transferring onwards rather than having there as their destination.

its been about 3 or 4 years all right since I had the pleasure but from looking at the offerings at pier 1A where I have had my issues with multiple times, what little there still is now, there is nothing open beyond 10pm without heading back through the security check so as I said, if you are waiting on a flight thats delayed in the late evening you'll be stuck for grub.
