Major Leak - Toyota Carina E

I have a Toyota Carina E that has been pretty much faultless for the first 18 years of it's life but has been getting extremely wet of late. There is a large puddle in the passenger footwell that has been forming on and off for the last while but got much worse lately.

The passenger door seal isn't great but I have used silicone to repair places where it is worn. I'm not sure the water is even coming from the door...the door surround is dry as is the carpet near the door sill. Where else could it be coming from?!

    Appreciate any help.

Have you checked that the drains under the bonnet at either side at the bottom of the windscreen are clear of leaves/debris? When they block water can pool and overflow into the footwells.

Have a look under the bonnet where the scuttle is check the drain holes are clear, they may need a bit of wire to clear them.

Should there be a cover over this vent for the ventilation system?

    Seal is shagged:

I think that due to the poor condition of the seal (above) water is getting in there. I'm just wondering should there be some kind of cover over the hole in the first pic? I know it's for the ventilation system but it seems very exposed.

There should be a cover, see the diagram I posted? part number 55790-20010
You should be able to find one from a broken car somewhere?
