How much weigh Parthenaise calves at birth?
I run a crossbred herd with Limx, Angusx, Charx, Herefordx, BBx cows and it'd be nice to know if all cows could calve without assistance.

I couldn't tell you a weight but we have had a good few off limx and aax cows and none of them gave any trouble . We find them easy calving

Lots have them around here and they're easy calved. They would be all purebred though so no idea on crosses.
They have an excellent temperament and the meat is worth €5/kg. I don't know why the meat is premium.

Anybody else hear anything about fertility issues with parthanaise? I know it can happen with any breed, but heard of someone running two of them and one got 1/3 in calf and the other got none in calf.

    Aubrac are born small too.

    PS welcome to boards OP

Have two out of HEx both calved no bother. Had twins out of a BBx recently. bit of a pull not be cause of the claves but the cow put zero effort in.
Have a couple of purebreds too. Cant say I've had extraordinary problems with fertility

Nobody in my country haven't tried Parthenaise, but I'd like to buy a couple. From all I've read it's really nice breed. We need that bulls we sell will be very muscular. Have used two home bred crossbred bulls and now using Limousin in herd. But if talking about Limos, we'd quite a lot problems with them, especialy with their character. So now I'm thinking about Parthenaise.

To be honest I fount the parths more or less the same as the limos with their temperment . In fact there were a few of them more lively than the limos .
Are you finishing them yourself or selling them as weanlings ?
Are you farming in Lithuania ? How is beef farming out there at the minute ?

Our Limx cows are very docile (mostly 1/2dairy), but we'd a lot of bad tempered Limx bulls. One 7/8 Limo bull out of very calm cow was aggressive. The first time we tried to load all bulls into truck he escaped and second time he attacked us. Also we'd many Limx bulls and heifers which were afraid of people. All cattle see us atleast once a day and usually I bring some snacks with myself.
    I'm finishing them myself.
Yes. I live in Lithuania. I think situation here is quite similar to other countries. Low prices, many prohibitions for farmers, but it's possible to live here. My region is the most suitable for beef farming, but here are very few who raise beef. We started beef farming in 2004th and now it's our life style. Now many people want to change their type of farming from dairy to beef.
If talking about breeds, so here the most popular are Limousine, Charolais and Aubrac.

Any Belgian Blue cattle being used , they are quiet and muscely .
Over here its the other way around , the beef lads are changing over to dairy .
Interesting to hear what other countries are like , would you need many sucklers to live from ?

I know one Simmental and Limousin breeder who has two BB bulls, but when I saw them it was such a big disappointment, because they look like heifers, but not bulls, very small and narrow shoulders, He bought them from Italy. Anyway, we've a couple of BBx cows and their calves show great results. It'd be nice to have more BBx cows, but using semen here is like a lottery. We can find very little info about bulls, so you never know what calf you'll wait. Had one heifer calved three months ago, used AI Angus bull and heifer is 1/2 Angus, but she'd a bull calf which weigh 54kg, any extra feed were given. Luckily, heifer was one of the biggest we've and with our help she calved, but calf was already dead. So if we will use BB semen for cows we can have some problems, while our vet had never done c-section. Our cows eating just hay from 1/2 Angus bull had 35-53kg calves.
We've started from 4 cows, had some sheep too and it was the only job we're living from. Now I've 20 cows and it's really possible to live. Also waiting for 9 heifers to calve this year.
