Always something with a house of VW's :P

anyway, dads 09 polo 1.4 tdi... it's gotten into the habit of frequently not starting, more often then not when the engine is hot. scanned it with vag-com and there are no codes stored and the check engine light isn't on. the car is turning over good and fast but could take 10-15 seconds of cranking before it starts and it runs, but as soon as it starts it idles and drives perfect.

its always kept in good shape... 75,000kms, driven right for a diesel.

will be dropping it to the local VW dealer Monday, just curious has anybody ever heard of anything similar with them so we have an idea what we are up against?

I have seen this problem loads of times. If you google TDI hot start issues you will find all sorts of solutions like new battery, starter motor, coolant temp sensor etc etc but none of them are guaranteed to work in my experience.

Luckily Joe Power has a solution for it where he tweaks the hot start settings in the ECU mapping which completely resolves the issue. He has done several of them for us over the last few years.

Thanks very much for the help! wasn't banking on anybody having experience with the problem :)

Was hoping it wouldn't be a ****ty messy problem like that tbh. didn't consider it being a starter/ battery style issue as it is turning over good and strong, just not firing.

I will pass his details on to dad, hopefully get him to take the car there. i was fearful because it's an intermittent problem that if he takes it to a VW dealer they will throw parts at it until they think they have it. Joe Power is out near Citywest is it? what roughly does he charge do you know?
