Cosgraves butchers beside Tesco at Ballybrack are doing an offer today of 4 fillet steaks for €12 and get 4 chicken fillets free. Not sure if offer is still available tomorrow.

Size of fillets is usually 5oz.

I hear these lads won't tell you where they get their meet from (as in location)

Chickens seem to be pumped with water too.
    Won't be going back there.

I think the offer is for scotch fillet with I believe is a rib eye steak. Have never been in the shop but I would hope that is is not true that a butcher would not give you full detail of where his meat is from

The mother inlaw asked where they got the beef and his answer was "eh, Ireland".

    Hi guys,

On reading the forum I'm glad you like our most recent deal, but some people I feel have the wrong idea about us and I would like to clear that up.

We believe in providing top quality meat at affordable prices, we are not out to make a fast buck.
We are a family owned business and have been around since 1892.
    (more here http://www.craftbutchers.ie/difference/shopprofile/cosgravesofomni.html)

    1. Beef Origin

All our beef is of 100% Irish origin and is grass fed. Our main supplier of Beef is Pallas foods based in Limerick.

    2. Our Chicken

None of our Chicken is pumped with water or anything else for that matter.
We get all our chickens from Manor Farm, which have strict quality controls in place to ensure a great product. (www.chicken.ie)

    3. The Scotch Fillet

A beautiful steak taken from the Sirloin Rump.
Instead of cutting the rump in to Sirloin steak, we take it apart and get different steaks off it.
We made up the name 'Scotch Fillet' ourselves, as this steak was our creation.
It was only after google searching the name we found some people in Australia and New Zealand call a Rib Eye the same thing, which is where I feel some confusion may come from.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope I have adequately addressed your issues and concerns. If not please PM me or call in to see me in Ballybrack.

    Thanks again,
    Jeff Cosgrave

    Hi Seapoint,

If you would allow, I would just like to clear up a few things. I will keep it short and sweet.

    1. Our Scotch Fillets are Sirloin not round steak, they never have and never will be.
We take apart the Sirloin Rump to make this steak, yes it is a very good price for a steak this tasty!

    2. Packaged Products
All the meat products you see on display and created and packaged in the shop. This is the best way to do it as it ensures the freshest product and this way we know exactly what goes in to each product.
Thank you for pointing out that we should make this known to our customers as we feel this is something that separates from the competition.

    3. Qualified Butchers
It saddens me that we have not been able to portray that our butchers are highly skilled and have a love for the job.
This is something we will have to work on as we want to relate this to the customer.

    4. Pricings/kg/lb/average weights
As Butchers in Ireland still work in imperial on a lot of products, the transition to metric is far from seamless. However we are working on our labeling. It is a work in progress.
We do have origin codes on all our products, eg. IE 803 EC. We are working on getting more info on to our labels.
I am unsure what your concern is with regards to The Sale of Goods Act ???

I am sorry you have not been able to find a bargain in our shop yet.
We do top quality meat at very affordable prices, we could get lower quality meat but it goes against our beliefs.

Here is a little bit more info about the history of our business http://www.craftbutchers.ie/difference/shopprofile/cosgravesofomni.html

Thanks for taking the time to read and please feel free to talk to me if you have any questions,
    Jeff Cosgrave

The mans lively hood was attacked in an open forum by a faceless poster. He has addressed each point of the attack. I don't think reporting is even adequate here, slander was posted 1week ago and has been viewed by 1100 people. Hardly advertising!

At what point did I say he was advertising? Verified Rep accounts are as much for the benefit of the poster as the community. It allows the guys in the office to confirm that the poster is who they say they are and not someone else impersonating them, something that has happened in the past.

Normally we'd have to delete posts from non verified reps but because of the reasons you've outlined above I decided to leave their posts but asked an admin to contact them about a verified account.
