    1. What is your budget? €1100

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming (Battlefield 4), Media server, storage of movies

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? No.

5a. If yes, what size do you need. No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? I have a Samsung LE32D550 1920 x 1080 50htz LCD TV. I will upgrade to a better TV if this is not suitable for a gaming display. The rig will be hooked up to two TVs.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Yes. Not to be included in the build price but a recommendation for a good set of wireless surround sound earphones would be nice. Also wireless keyboard and mouse combi for browsing off the couch (for her) and a wireless keyboard and mouse for use from my gaming chair.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. How can you pay? Any

    9. When are you purchasing? End of Feb. Will push out till end of March if better components or deals are out there.

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? No.

Notes: This rig will be situated in my sitting room and hooked up to two tv's. My 50" 1080 plasma for watching movies and the 32" LE32D550 (or upgraded if needed) for playing games. It will be located under the 50" beside my xbox so if its a tower pc format it will be in desktop mode.

One of the considerations I would like would be quietness of the rig when running. I will be gaming on a headset but the missus might be watching TV at the same time. I wouldn't like her to hear screaming fans while I game.

    Hi Guys,

I've done a bit of research and the processor below is the best bang for buck for overclock. The other components are standard for a gaming rig. I went for a water cooler as I will be overclocking and I want this build to be as silent as possible. Still as stuck on the motherboard and graphics card.

    Item|Price
    Intel Core i5-4670K - 3.4GHz - Socket 1150 - Unlocked|..
    Water Cooler|..
    Unknown Sockel 1150 motherboard|..
    8GB Ram|..
    Unknown PCI- Express Graphics card|..
    240GB SSD|..
    2TB HDD|..
    Windows 8.1 64Bit Eng DVD|..

    Any comments would be appreciated...

    Hi Guys,

I've been doing some lurking and the following build were recommended in another thread. Both were in my price range. I still have a few questions though.

I have seen that other people recommend the Z87 chipset for motherboards. Is there a specific reason for this?

In the builds below Windows 7 was recommended, is Windows 8 not fit for a gaming rig?

Now the recommendations to keep the noise down. Is water cooling the best option (I will be over clocking the processor)?

Does the "Silent" cases really keep the noise out (e.g. Cooler Master Silencio 352 for example)?

The Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC Windforce 3 in both builds has 3 fans on the card. I'm assuming that this card is the best for graphics but might be noisy? I think I might have to live with this one.

With regards to the TV. Is my 50htz Samsung good enough for gaming. I run my xbox one off it no problem. Is PC gaming much different?

As my system is going to be a media tank in the sitting room I'll be going for a 240GB Samsung EVO SSD as I read the article that this drive is the best bang for buck. So I guess this will be the best drive when paired with a 2TB HDD.

Sorry. I didn't get any replies to so put some information into this thread that I thought would be useful.

Any information or points you can contribute would be helpful.

You've done your homework for sure just going to go through parts now and do up mock build.

I'm nearly there. Just the questions below and I'm sorted. The main one being the TV used as a monitor.

I'm using windows 8 for gaming and its perfect, would have no reason to get windows 7 (tiles is **** but just get start 8 or another start menu and your sorted)

You have selected pretty much what I would choose personally.

    Two things maybe.

Case : Nanoxia deep silence. 90 odd euro. As the name suggests silent , has good cooling, great features. Highly recommend.

The storage. This is just my personal opinion. Instead of a 240 SSD. Get 2 120 SSD. One for os and important programs. The other for priority games or media.
And HDD for music and video.

Benefits are your machine running smooter os, games can be moved around easy as well as steam. Also should one break you have the other

I wouldnt bother with the two, just makes extra hassle of having a third drive and usually bigger drives are faster, just have it all on the one drive and keep 2tb drive for data.
I use 128gb ssd for os and programs and 2tb for games though (I've 1tb of games installed which is why i do it this way :P)
