Hot water tap and pump issue

    HI,
Hoping someone could help me here with a problem I'm having.

Essentially I only use my pump for a shower however its connected to all taps in the apartment. The pump kicks in when I turn on every other tap bar the hot water tap in the bath (and of course this is all I need it for so it no longer works!)

When the pump is switched on and I turn on the hot water tap in the bath the pump does not kick in and no water comes out.

If I now turn on any of the taps in the sink while the hot water tap is turned on full in bath the pump kicks in for the sink taps but not yet the bath tap.

if I now turn the bath tap back to about half open and leave the sink tap on hot water starts to come through the bath tap. This is the only way I can have a shower now.

It doesn't seem to be a pump issue but an issue with the bath's hot tap. I'm pretty decent at DIY and am not afraid to go looking into it so with that said does anybody have any ideas on a fix?

Anyone got any knowledge/feedback/experience of the electric hot water taps that are currently coming on the market? Was thinking of gettingone - they claim to heat up water instantly, was just wondering if anyone has any advice on their efficiency/value????
    Many thanks

if it's the Qooker thing that's being pushed like crazy, there are 3 issues that I came up with after looking at their web site.

The first is that it's over €1200 fitted, which for what it is seems to be a VERY high price, the second is that it needs a water pressure of over 2 bar, which in a lot of Irish homes is a big ask, because in a lot of cases the supply pipe from the mains is 1/2" bore, which is designed to reduce the flow potential, so even if the device is an acceptable price, getting it to perform acceptably may be a problem due to low pressure, and the third issue that seems to be skated around on their web site is the number of places in Ireland that have VERY hard water, and a device operating at the temperatures they are offering IS going to have problems if the water is hard.

So, do your homework very carefully before saying yes, if their sales side is any bit as pushy as their advertising, it may be hard to say no once you are on the phone to them, and it's a serious price device if it turns out to not work, or not be suitable to the environment you have

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Thanks, Irish Steve - it's not the one you mention but a simpler (and much cheaper) yoke called an Instant Electric Hot Water tap from Smart Energy Systems

Hi! So I've learned a lot about pumps and how they work lately. Can I ask if this is a recent thing or was it working before and now has started doing this? If this is the case maybe the pump has developed a fault.
If I were you I would try and get a dedicated pump for the shower.
PM me and I can give the contact from a pump guy he may be able to sort you out.

Ahh OK, not seen that one, (yet), but the other 2 issues will still be worth checking out, even if it is a lot cheaper.

Also, check to see if there's a deliberately very irritating automatic reset and specific to each operation safety interlock to ensure that it doesn't throw out boiling water without the user specifically and positively setting it to that point and confirming that they really do want it boiling, as the potential for nasty accidents with children doesn't bear thinking about, there's a very big difference between water at 50 to 60 and water at 90 plus centigrade.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Hi was interested in buying an electric hot tap saw one yesterday at the Ideal Home Exhibition .... has anyone purchased on of these electric taps.... I thought they would save me putting on the immersion in the summer for hot water for washing dishes etc.. thus saving money when the heating is not on would not have any hot water in the tank... but the only question I have is in the winter can I use the hot water in my tank when the heating is on... would this device save me money...any reviews thanks:)
