80% of users on boards are bots. You never see the other 20% in social situations.

It sounds sort of like a type of dreadful disease a sailor used to pick up after a night in port. Symptoms include: greasy hair, extreme sensitivity to sunlight, delusions of intelligence and repeating the same gibberish over and over again in the hope someone will listen to them.

I'm suspicious of boardsies who I think belong to a thread derailment gang.
Unless such thread derailers are operational on threads promoting Garth Brooks/Facebook/Twitter

I only know one other boards user in real life and I can't even ask for his user name cos he's kinda famous and might think I'm stalking him

I know he's a user cos I was looking over his shoulder one time and saw him on boards

A large percentage of my friends are on boards, so when they introduce me to someone I just assume they are too :o

Not really. Most people on here suffer from Asperger's and rarely leave their basements.

It wouldn't bother me if someone IRL knew I was on here and what my username is. I say the same things on here that I do IRL. If I was that paranoid, I'd never have gone to any of the beers and missed out on some great nights.

Ask them 'are you a friend of ours?' in a NY/NJ accent. If they act confused drop it immediately, Boards is a secret society, we don't need the attention.

Nah, I don't assume anyone is a boardsie. I met one at electric picnic as a non internet person and he figured out I was on boards. He wasn't as regular poster back then but he's a full on nerd these days and we're mates. Even made him breakfast a couple of weeks ago

So how would one establish if a friend is on boards without asking? I'm just gonna make sure the boards app is on my home page of my phone from now on :)

I was at a party a few months ago with people I didn't really know.
Anyway they seemed like a very boardsie sort of crowd so I threw it out there to the room. Everyone went quiet. Are people ashamed of using boards!?!?!
