I left sky 18 months ago as I was tired of the repeats merry go round. Bought an Arriva 150 and have grown to hate it! Attached a 500 mb hard drive to record/pause. Sometimes it takes several attempts to switch the unit on manually and it often misses recordings because it wont switch on. I suspect its a defrag issue, but I really cant be bothered disconnecting it to defrag it in my pc repeatedly.

can anyone recommend a freesat receiver with the following:

    7 day epg
    Bbc red button access
    integrated hard drive
    user friendly menus

happy to spend a years basic sky sub to get one

Any of the Freesat+ receivers here will give you those options - http://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat/recommended/freesat-plus-with-freetime, http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/ (see rh column)

Humax is highly recommended but costly, Manhattan is equally good and cheaper.

go here and snap this up, you can use parcel motel for delivery, a sky sub would be 279
pounds for the year, this is a no brainer. keep the 150 for saorview.

Freesat is fine, as long as you aren't expecting the Irish channels to show up in the Freesat EPG.

Selling point of combi satellite/terrestrial receivers like the Ariva, is that they allow reception of the Irish channels via Saorview. (Though the Ariva is not Saorview approved.)

Thanks Peter, not really bothered about the Irish Channels, my old Toshiba TV is semi Saorview compatible, I get the channels up in the 800's, but no text and limited guide/info.

Hopefully the Ariva will work fine without the Hard Drive on the bedroom tv.

Thank you all for your help, I REALLY did not want to return to Sky.

The ariva will work fine, the hard drive is only used for recording/timeshift

It may work for ITV but not for BBC, Channels 4 or 5.

Thank you. No point in spending the extra money for it so, I'll just get the basic model. :)

Well that didn't go to well...

"Unfortunately your order has been cancelled as we do not accept cards issued outside of the UK.
There is also a warranty issue, as the units are all supplied with a UK onsite warranty.
If you still wish to purchase a unit from us you will need to re-order on our website using a card that has been issued within the UK.
We also cannot deliver to freight forwarding companies"

Sometimes it feels like we live on the moon, not within sight of our neighbours.

Don't have anyone in the UK to order it for me, so I guess it's back to the drawing board.

well thats a bummer and I am surprised but in this day and age I shouldn't be. Go to fleabay, a lot of people are upgrading and try richer sounds in belfast. The bit that really mystified me was the mention of freight forwarding companies!!

    Thanks, I'll try both .
Yeah, bit confused about the whole freight forwarding thing, if they don't use them, who does their deliveries?

As GB said, try Richer Sounds in Belfast. They have a presence on Boards and there may even be a discount. I've used them loads and they're great to deal with.

    Update:
Bought a new Manhattan Plaza 320gb for £125, free delivery to Parcel Motel Belfast + €3.50 to Thurles, from these guys via Amazon: LWI SATELLITE
No problem with my credit card or delivery to Parcel Motel.
Arrived in 2 Days, impressed with Parcel motel, will use them again.

Unit is great, picture quality excellent on my 6 year old Toshiba. Easy to set up, menus very intuitive, well pleased.
