    hi all, just got a small afrm from folks, its been rentd to same guy past few years neither he or my folks drew any payments on it, id like to let him rent it for another year or two. its just done with a verbal agreemant every year, could i claim anything now?

    you can claim its yours and thats about it. if its in a disadvantaged area the farmer renting should be able to claim it otherwise he will have to buy entitlements for it.

    Well, I would strongly advise that you get your current arrangement put on a formal footing. Forget this handshake business where land is concerned. It probably is the case that you are on best terms with your renter, but whats to stop him claiming sometime in the future that he never paid you a cent and he is now claiming adverse possession.

    Draw up a simple agreement that both of you sign and a third party known and trusted by both of you can witness it.
