The power button on my nano is gone,it wont turn on but it feels like something under it isnt pressing down,as if the part under the power button is worn down or something. It turns on fine when i plug it in no problem. should i try to repair it myself? ie like on ifixit.com

    anyone else have this problem?

Is it still covered under Apple warranty?

I highly doubt it even though its only a year old. I might chance my arm and see if theyl give me a replacement if I use my sisters receipt for her ipod ( they might not check the serial number!)

They'll always ask for the serial number, won't set up a repair without it.

No getting around it, serial numbers are always checked and if you decide to give a false serial you won't even get it repaired anyway.
