Early Prices

Alright lads, frequent visitor to the forum here - don't post too much usually. Have a question...

I've seen a lot of talk about lads taking prices either the evening before or a few days before a race (the Barney Curley coup springs to mind).

Paddy Power, for example, will put up prices the evening before on some races, but not all. They would rarely have prices up for a maiden hurdle in ireland the night before, for example.

Question is: where are you getting prices in the days leading up to a race? I'm talking lower grade races, bumpers, maidens etc - not Grade 1s!

    Thanks.

    There's no mystery here.

You can get prices on most handicaps the night before the race (the barney coup bets were placed the night before)

You will get prices 2+days in advance for the larger handicaps - but ante-post rules apply as does with any advance betting on larger profile races.

You will not get prices on maidens/bumpers etc until the morning of the race, unless you find something on the exchanges the night before (price is likely to be prohibitive in such an event)

Bet365 are usually first to price up most races, and can often price a horse up "wrong", ie. much bigger odds than he really should be

Sometimes you can nick some great value when only one or two firms are pricing up a race. PP went 9/1 Tammys Hill for this Sunday's Hunter Chase at Leopardstown. He's now 7/1, in line with 365 who are the only other one's pricing up the race at the moment. Will definitely be even shorter on the day in my opinion, but 9/1 looked ridiculous!

To answer your question, you won't get prices on lower grade races on the days leading up to them.
    The OPs question I mean.

They will also lay you fck all in the mornings. Walk into a shop and ask for €100 on a 10-1 shot and see what happens...
