Partial capacity benefit

Has anyone here applied for partial capacity benefit after being on illness benefit? I'm just wondering how long it took for SW to assess your application and did they go into detail about the difference between mild, moderate, severe and profound incapacity for work or how would you know what category you fell under?

Also, I know you have to be on illness benefit for six months prior to being allowed apply for this, has anyone applied before their six months are up with a view to resuming work soon after six months on illness benefit in case they take ages processing or making a decision.

In my case, my doctors currently want me to take the next six months or so off to try to stabilise my condition, however as I am a primary school teacher if I want to do part time hours these can only commence on sept 1st. I read that once you apply you cannot work until SW approve your application so I am afraid of being caught in a catch 22 situation next September with no sick pay remaining and SW taking too long to process my application when I'm supposed to start part time work on sept 1st, does anyone have any advice on what to do?

    Thanks

Thanks for that info Sandra. Did it say any criteria anywhere on the form for determining whether you are assessed as mild, moderate, severe or profound or is it solely up to the doctor that assesses you on the day? Also is the decision made there and then so you can start work straight away?
