Forum meet in March

Anyone interested in a forum meet up sometime in March?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yep. But really nervous bout it! Andrew; 22 y/o; closeted!

Yeah I'd totally be up for that. Somewhere for a few drinks and chats, definitely.

I'd be interested too, depending on the date :)

It's flexible - I'll put a poll in the next few days

Possible venue? Where do you guys usually go?

Front Lounge might be an obvious one. Have been to J.W. Sweetmans off O'Connell Bridge for other meet ups. It's nice and central. Also nice beers. :)

Sweetmans is nice and to be honest I kinda always preferred a non gay bar for meetups. At least at the start of the night :)

For anyone who's been before, how does it work? Is one associated with their Boards name? If so, I dibs the fruity-sounding Mango Salsa. Only joking - I'm aware it's a social get-together!! I heard about these through a guy who ended up being a no-show for a meet, so fingers crossed he remains true to tradition and is similarly absent from this!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Ash885

Sounds good. I've enjoyed the previous ones so this shall be no different :)

There's the usual confusion as to whose who, but nothing a few beers won't solve. Don't be too nervous about it, I'm glad I went to them!

    Whats the venue, any suggestions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,157 ✭✭✭✭Annasopra

There seems to be a consensus from previously that people prefer non gay bars first and then follow on somewhere after

After that "debate" I was nearly ready to just hit the pub.

We usually meet in sweetmans, its pretty central and neutral! Then move on to a gay club for ever is up for it! Everyone just refers to each other by their names, tbh the people I have all got to know, I haven't a clue what their boards usernames are! Anyone that is closeted, fear not, there are some of us that go that are closets, anyone who goes that isn't closeted is all very low key so no need to be intimidated, there won't be pink flags and fake tan being waved all around the place! Just a few lads drinks and bita banter! Any qs, pop me a mail, I can't speak highly enough of the boards meet ups in the past!

Haha! So, I'll leave my leather trousers at home, then? Shame, really, cause I don't get many chances to wear them. When's Oktoberfest again?

The friendliness of this thread has me a lot more relaxed. Looking forward to it!

Maybe we should have a poll to get rough numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭Daith

    Well maybe a date first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Ash885

Early March would probably suit those staying in a hostel/hotel, as they won't be gutted by the St. Paddy's hype which is bound to hit. My two cents, but should be a great laugh anyway regardless of the date ^^

I agree with that. Early March would be best for me anyway.

Sounds like it could be a great night, would like to go but never been to a meetup before and I'd be a little kinda nervous.
As previously mentioned early March would be best with St.Patricks lark

I know it's not March but what about 28th Feb or 1st March?
Or should just add a poll?

How about we meet up in a group setting and see if there's a spark first?

Edit: I was genuinely confused about that at first. "Why would someone want a date when loads of people are meeting up off a forum." /thicko

There's really no need to be nervous. Easily said then done I know, but honestly!

First time I went on my own not knowing a sinner. There was a lot of panic, pacing around trying to find the table. But when I found them (and after 5 minutes of word vomit from yours truely) it dawned on me that it was all very chilled and relaxed and there wasn't much need for worry. Everyone is in the same boat so safety in numbers and all that jazz :)

I haven't been to a public gathering to meet anonymous online chatters since... 1997. Don't know if I'm able for this...

Don't worry there would obviously be a few other nervous people.

    Poll added.

You can choose both dates if both suit.

The poll is public so you will be able to see who voted what way and it will close on the 20th

If anyone is really nervous and doesn't want to arrive alone, send me a PM and I can meet up with you beforehand. It might give you the extra sense of comfort if you meet just one person and then go in knowing you're not a complete stranger and can be introduced etc.

It would more than likely be in the Dublin city centre. Easier access for everyone. There's some really cheap and cheerful hostels/hotels around St. Stephen's Green and Smithfield which do the job for me anytime I head out in Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭Daith

Country Gay friends of mine have recommended Abigals and Barnacles as their choice of hostel. Both v central.

I've no affiliation with either of them.

I have family in dublin, finding a place to stay is no problem I just wondered where its on at. Dublin's cool and groovy for me!

Probably meet in JW Sweetmans first and then move on somewhere else
