are fog lights acceptable in heavy rain? or to deter tailgating? and if so, how do you determine how heavy the rain is, wipers on full blast? and how close is close for tailgating - cant see their lights, or number plate?

    lets discuss.
Lofty123 is taking a lot of stick on this in another thread. I would like this teased out to see what opinions are.

Clue is in the name really. Heavy fog or snow i.e. When you actually can't see in front of you. If you can see the car in front of you (Plus your reaction and brake distance), they ain't necessary. Thats my rule of thumb.

This has been discussed to death. So much so that the charter (which everybody must have read..) specifically rules out these threads
