I'm looking to get cavity wall insulation done. What is the best type of insulation to get and is there anything that I should be looking out for?

If anyone can recommend a company in the Cork area, feel free to PM me. Will also be getting the attic insulated so advice on this would also be welcome.

While insulation is important, you should understand that it may have little effect depending on what your main heat loss mechanism is. An example of this is when the main mechanism is convection heat loss (aka draughts). Improving the insulation in this instance will have negligible effect except to lighten your wallet.

To be honest the house doesn't feel drafty at all. I do have two fireplaces but I'm using chimney balloons in them because I know a significant amount of heat can be lost there.

Should I be getting a thermal imaging test done before getting any insulation work done?

Good installers may have a thermal imaging camera that they can give you a walkthrough of the house with and point out any particular problem areas (usually near windows) I know that <snip> have one for sure. It'd be worth asking when ringing around when you're getting quotes

Good, in that case upgrading the insulation may well be beneficial.

Imo, yes, but also an air pressure or (aka) air leakage test done in conjunction with thermal imaging.

All good and well but what happens when the TI survey shows up air tightness issues which won't be addressed by the insulation upgrade? Will the "good installers" point this out and tell the home owner that there is little point in insulating?
