    Hi all,

So i am a contractor that use an umbrella company to get paid. I have received a letter for Jury duty for March and am wondering if i woud get paid at all if got summoned for a trial? Does anyone have any experience of this. I get paid a daily rate so am a bit worried about not getting paid if i get picked.

Just turn up and sit there drooling with a pencil in each of your nostrils and you won't have to worry about being picked....

You don't get paid. You should read the leaflet that came with the Jury summons and then contact juryoffice@courts.ie

You fall between 2 stools; you are an employee of the service company to suit your own tax position. Accordingly, you are not self employed and it s therefore difficult how you could justify excusal on that ground. You are entitled to be paid by your employer but as you own 100% of it, that is moving money from one pocket to another. I guess you may have t o accept it as a cost of your chosen employment vehicle.
