Courses near Mount Juliet

Now I realise this may not be at the same scale of those looking for course recommendations in California, never the less here goes.

I'm likely to be staying near Kilkenny for a week in July. While I might be able to spring for a green fee in Mt Juliet on one of the days, I certainly can't be doing it more than that. So I'm interested in course recommendations within striking distance (up to 30 mins drive time)? Also looking for reasonable value for money ie if I can get myself and the son out for €100 or less.
    Any suggestions?
    Kilkenny? Carlow? anywhere else?

Try Carrick on Suir, it's about 35 min from Killkenny but worth the trip.

gowran Park is just down the road from mount Juliet and is a lovely course. Carlow is less than 30 mins and is one of the highest ranked parkland courses.

Have a look at GUI open fixtures for Carlow/Kilkenny/Waterford- open day singles generally 15/20/25 max and are great value. Some clubs will have an open day every week and plenty of free spaces in the mornings. Would definitely recommend Kilkenny, Carlow and Gowran. Castlecomer quite hilly on front 9 but challenging. Heritage in Laois definitely worth the trip.

Try Mountain View not too far from Mt.Juliet and good value we have played there when we have run out of our Mt. Juliet money.

Callan is 20mins from Mt Juliet, worth a visit as are Castlecomer, Gowran Park and Kilkenny. Kilkenny would be most expensive but you should get out in any of the other three for €20.

don't miss out on Carlow or Gowran, next best is KK and Comber (very hilly but magic imo and tough)then Callan

would definately recommend carrick, castlecomer and clonmel is very good too.all hilly enough comer being very hilly.i don't rate kk as high as some people so,nice course but would rate gowran higher.thurles isn't too far away either and is a lovely course.callan is very tight but tricky, greens tend to be extremly quick during the summer and will have open singles every wednesday but still would rate just behind those already mentioned.mt wolseley is a very nice course,i nearly forgot not too far either with very reasonable rates lately.of those i have mentioned i would rank them
    1.MT.Wolseley
    2.Gowran
    3.Thurles
    4.Castlecomer
    5.Clonmel
    6.Carrick
    7.Kilkenny
    8.Callan

Mount wolsley is a real class setup best around..... Gowran is the best value for a mature parkland course.

Borris is a gorgeous 9 hole course well worth consideration.

I'm a member in Kilkenny & can only say the course is in top quality. Greens are superb & very fast but true. Good few new bunkers just after been put in.

Give me a shout closer to the time for a game in Kilkenny if you fancy it.

My picks would be Mount Juliet, Kilkenny, Carlow, Castlecomer (now with a changed course layout), and Borris.

phkk, PremierMan, markpauldunne, I've played Mt Wosley and wasn't keen on it. My memory was that the holes were very close together kept having people from other holes playing on the same hole as me. Probably due to lots of immature trees. TBH its some years ago and my memory is so poor I might be full of S**t.

Shane, that's a very kind offer. I might take you up on it nearer the time.

Tx to all. There are lots of options to ponder.

Anyone played Gowran recently? Am looking to play there Saturday maybe.

Ya played there last Saturday week, place was in great condition.greens and fairways were perfect. One bit of advice try and keep it on the fairway as much as possible, last week it really sat down in the rough.great course though, especially the augusta 4th

Played it once last year, loved it. That par 3 over the race course killed me, left rough was really tough
Actually Parr e d that 4th, gorgeous hole. Driver 5 iron if I remember right.
