I have major reservations about this.

At this stage, I've had 3 different fellas walk Ash stands of mine (16-18 years old) and tell me "Ah, there's a few there all right- sure its a bit rough, but we'll sort it for ya, and we'll cut and stack the firewood for ya." But, hello, how much are you paying for the butts? "Ah sure,by the time we yada yada yada, we'll say 20 or 30 each, but you'll have a bit of firewood and we'll have it stacked for ya in lovely 6 foot lengths..."

I'm not suggesting anyone on here has done or said this, but I will need very sensible discussion before I let anyone onto my land to harvest hurley butts from a resource that will pay multiples of such offers as I have received each year its allowed to grow on.

If I'm wrong, please feel free to challenge me, and present your counter- arguments..

    My 2 cents worth..

    hi tom
ash for butts is making 500euro per cubic meter which averages out about 30 euro each.
i think yours might be a bit small at this stage.but it is the right age or thinning. have you considered thinning it and selling the firewood. also while you are thinning they might be some big enough for butts there fore increasing your profit

Because we cut into the roots to get turn on the grain.
On a ditch you might only get one good root

Hello ASH TREES FOR HURLEYS WANTED.I am looking for the ash to be in a wood or grove. We are not interested in trees on ditches as the roots don't form as required.we are paying top prices more than the €30 that has been suggested on this board.anyone with any info get in touch thank you
