Hey, so just wondering if I get another car which is less or exactly same as my current one, will insurance go up or stay the same?

I mean it's not like a double risk factor, not that I will drive two cars at same time on road and crash, it's either one or another (hopefully neither).

I currently have: E46 2001, I was wondering of getting 1995-1996 E36 so it's basically same car but another model.

    Thanks.

P.S - I have lots of free time on my hands, so I want to do some kind of tinkering.

Are you going to ask for all the experienced, knowledgeable posters advice, and then completely ignore it and do the opposite?

    :D

I reckon you'll have to either purchase a second policy, with no ncb, which will cost you a good bit, or keep transferring your current policy over, every time you want to switch cars , which is a lot of hassle.

Please don't start this **** again and end up derailing thread and getting it locked, I asked specific thing.

So in Ireland it's impossible to have two cars under one policy? that's kind of retarded how insurance works (so as pretty much everything else related to road/driving in IE unfortunately)

And why do you mean no ncb?

Yes you can't insure two cars under the one policy unless you have a fleet policy, you will need a second insurance policy for the second car

Oh alright, guess my only option is to wait until may to have 2 years NCB then get some 1.4/1.6 under new policy.

    Thanks for the help.

Keep in mind you can only use your NCB on one policy at a time.

Not all insurers will allow you to mirror your NCB on second policy; with a lot (most, probably) you will be taking out a second policy with no NCB, so it is going to work out more expensive.

Insurance isn't solely based on the power or cost of the vehicle. If loads of claims have been made by E36 owners, of around your age, it'll have a higher insurance rating than your E46. Then for even more fun some more powerful and expensive vehicles can be cheaper to insure as they have less claims.

Both cars could be crashed in different incidents, or stolen.

Axa will do a classic policy on a 20 year old car. Limited mileage, but that's big a problem for a second car really. Cost me €310 last year for 5500km. You need to have a full NCB and be over 25 I think.

    How would this work then..!
I have my own policy and NCB on my own car. I'm also named driver on my missus policy, on her car with NCB.
Can I insure a second vehicle using NCB on the named driver policy, and still use my own NCB on my own car..?

Not retarded, uk only started doing two car policies a few years ago, I should know I had to have three policies.

No. When you take out your own insurance, that becomes the point of reference for underwriting your cover. The named driver experience falls by the wayside

Not so - just mirrored my current NCB on to a 2nd car in the last week, so getting the benefit of my NCB on two cars now.

You need to ask your insurer if they will mirror your NCB. If you have no or little NCB now, it'll basically cost you the price of a full 2nd policy in full as there's nothing to mirror.

You can't have 2 cars on one policy (SD&P) policies (domestic).

No, but, it is worth asking if they will mirror your NCB on to a 2nd car in your name. Worked for me (last Friday).
