So basically my dads astra lost all power the last day and sounded like it was misfiring etc with the eml on, pulled it in and got it towed to his usual mechanic. Straight away he was saying the timing chain had slipped, when he read it withe the computer it came up misfire on cylinders 1,2 and 3. Said he'd try a new coilpack and get back to us.
Called my dad and said he put in a new coilpack and only 'then' did the timing chain slip... Just finding it really hard to believe as the the engine has low mileage and has always been kept serviced I.e chain not rattling and was never drove hard. Mechanic reckons its sell the car or get replacement engine.
Just wondering has this happened to anyone else or what are his options as money is fairly tight at the moment, any help will be greatly appreciated.
