Calculate holiday pay

    Hi I started a new Job in the middle of november, working 30 hrs the first week and 36.25 from there on in. Their annual leave year runs from start of June to end of May! How do I work out the amount of days annual leave I'm due? Do I multiply the number of months I'll have worked until June by 1.66? Do I count November as a month, 0.8 or do I not count it? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

    You need to ask at work, there's different ways they can do it. They should tell you eaxtly what your due right now.

    As you seem to be working different hours each week, you have 2 options.

    Option 1: If you work more than 144 hours per month, you are entitled to 1.67 days annual leave for that month. A day's leave in this case would be calculated as the average number of hours worked per week in the last 13 weeks, divided by number of days you work per week. It is kind of complicated and messy.

    Option 2: Add up all the hours you have worked since when you started and then multiply by 0.08 (8%). This will give you the number of hours annual leave due. Then divide this by your average working week (average number of hours worked per week over the last 13 weeks), to give you the number of days annual leave due to date.

    You are entitled to 20 days annual leave by law, but an employer may give you more at their discretion. If you have only 20 days leave, and assuming you started on the first of Nov 2013, you would only have accrued a max of 5 days (3 months being a quarter of your annual leave entitlements) annual leave. You would also only have another 6.67 days annual leave accruals between now and the end of your leave year.
