Gameweek 25 Captain Poll

I have RVP, I didn't destroy my team to get him in last week and I will captain him because he is the best choice for this GW on paper. The fact he's a massive differential helps. This is also a week where Hazard and Yaya could run riot too so I'll need to keep my head above water somehow.

It's a no brainer but I'm also aware that United have been poor and that RVP is only coming back from injury and facing Arsenal on Wed. Plus Meulensteen could in theory know more about United than others but Fulham have been beyond awful. There's never a sure thing in this game, not even with Suarez even if he's pretty damn close. Nevertheless Robin Van Persie is the best option this week whatever anyone says, will it work? I sure as hell hope so but am aware it might not.

I don't buy the whole GW4 Palace "disaster" but if people want to use it as a justification for not having him it's fine by me. The same as I have continually bemoaned and attempted to justify not having Hazard and Yaya :pac:

Definitely wouldn't use the Palace game as a justification for not having him, just know someone that is considering taking an 8 point hit to get him in and that's what I think is madness. It's a different story if you got him as a swap for Aguero. Wish I had him myself this week but I'm happy with the team I have so just have to hope he doesn't do too much damage :)

I had to check his ownership after reading that. You're right, he has only 17% ownership.

He'll be my captain for sure.
This could be THE week to make ground on Liverpool supporting league leaders. Their faith in sturridge (along with suarez but I have him) has been rewarded massively. Now its united fans turn :O

I'm taking an 8 point hit to get him in. I still think he'll be as effective in a game like this as you'd have expected him to be last season. With Suarez and Aguero in the game and significantly cheaper he isn't necessarily a value choice long-term, but expect big returns from him, particularly against the weaker teams, and I'll be disappointed if I'm not taking home a 24-26 point captain tally on him this week. If he does, the move is justified in my eyes. If not, probably a bad decision.

An awful lot of that 17% are in-actives.... I think it's something like 14% of that 17%... his ownership was about 470k iirc before at it's lowest.

Yip, the transfers in so far don't really match all the talk of him, I think he burst through 20%.
I'm just glad he isn't protected anymore.

Suarez hasn't scored against any of the big 4 teams this season, just four of his strikes have come against teams currently taking residence in the top half of the table.

RVP to be the differential this GW,many can't afford him.

    He hasn't played the teams in 7th 9th 10th 12th yet.

And he has only played the top 4 teams away. (Well Liverpool are fourth) He has run up a goal and and assist in both fixtures against the next placed team. Still home fixtures to come. Suarez is a must have a no brain captain at home for me.

Did some analysis on this in the general thread here , and it is fair to say statistically he has returned less against stronger opposition. However he is also capable of a massive score against anyone on a given day.

The Captain Suarez always argument doesnt really stack up, but I would subscribe to the If in doubt Suarez argument.

That is all I will say on the matter however as I am getting increasingly paranoid about jinxing things particularly with all the wild expectations for RVP this weekend. :(

Shouldn't that be the same of any player ? How many players always score against teams from the top 4 and never score against the teams in the bottom half of the table ?

Sure, its the same with any player. The point I am making is that saying "Captain Suarez Always Against Anyone" is not necessarily valid.

Pick the best Captain option in a given week based on player, form and opposition. Not a criticism of Suarez. This is a stats game.

With that logic you'd not have captained him away to Spurs that time! For me I think he'll score over 250pts this year. So that's over 500 as captain. I'll worry about the rest of my team making up the rest.

I didnt, and it hurt. Like I said he can score big against anyone on a give day. And he can score 2 on another. Thats the beauty of it!

I think especially with everyone owning him its worth shopping around and using your judgement / statistical guidance to chose the Captain for the week thats in it. It'll hurt if you miss the odd Spurs haul and you will gain massively if you hit the nail on the head with somebody else.

And now I'm talking about it and putting the hex on everything!!! AAAGGH. ;)

    Eh, I dunno...
Not really, plenty of better options out there tbh
City against Norwich, Southampton against Stoke, or even Sunderland() against Hull... and Suarez as a safe option. But if you are looking for a little different differential, then why not - at the end of the week RVP, Suarez, Rod and Dzeko could be all on sad 2 points when Benteke scored a hattrick...

Going with RVP... but am scared of taking it off Suarez! I have only done so two or 3 times all season and twice i got burnt badly but in saying that backing a captain in the early game on a Sat rarely works out for me either for some reason!

I'm lingering around 200k though so need to do something a little different. UTD don't look like they can put too many past anyone but Fulham are leaking goals to poor sides as well as better teams all season so fingers crossed! Will be squeeky bum time on Sunday if Suarez runs riot though!

Just went through all my gameweek scores and have figured out that I've gotten 436 from my captain total. Ignoring when Suarez was banned (first 5 games) I have 360 from my captain. Captaining Suarez each week in that time would have gotten me 394 points, so 34 points extra. That's good enough for top 6K, but instead I'm outside top 20K.

Rotating Suarez as captain has cost me over 15K positions! And it's the times I took the armband off him for players with better fixtures that hurt me. Occasionally Lukaku and Aguero have scored more in individual gameweeks for me, but overall I'm worse off for not just captaining him each week.

Can anyone better 394 points from captain since GW5? If so, you should probably stick with rotating. If not, you've been better off to now captaining Suarez week-in/week-out

With Benteke hitting form, I can see him bagging some points despite this, that away goal against Chelsea is a prime example of how he can unlock stubborn defence with a moment of genius. That said, no way he's getting the armband.

The job that Arsenal did on Dortmund is making me nervous about giving it to Suarez, I need a differential this week after losing some ground.

I'm eyeing up Hazard, Mata and Y. Toure.

I've Rodriguez and Benteke with Suarez, I've been burned, not once, but twice not giving it to Suarez, it's starting to feel like one of those week where no matter what decision I make it will be the wrong one. :(

I have a huge amount of faith in the Arsenal defence (as a fan!) Which is exactly why I will not be giving the armband to Suarez.

The absolute most Liverpool'll get is one, possibly two goals. Between Suarez and Sturridge, I wouldn't captain either.

My reasoning also. Last time Suarez ran riot not having him captain (vs Spurs) knocked me right back.

Arsenal tried to buy him in the Summer so that may motivate him further.

Saurez as captain even though I'm half tempted with Lallana or J Rod at home to Stoke.

if there's ever a week not to captain Suarez, it's this.

    City playing Norwich.
    Utd at home to Fulham.
even Chelsea at home to a reeling Newcastle.

plus Suarez is on the early Saturday KO. i hate having my captain in that game.

still sticking with Luis for now though.

I've counted this too but have ignored GW6 because I didn't have Suarez then. Since then my captain has gotten me 362 points. Captaining Suarez each week since then would have gotten me 368. I'm losing out on just 6 points. 6 times I haven't captained him**. 3xAguero and 3xLukaku.
The Lukaku ones are really annoying me now. GW8, GW16 and GW18.
Total from Lukaku in those weeks got me 18 points. Total from Suarez would have been 66 points.

Basically if I'd never captained Lukaku I'd have 48 more points. That would have me in with a chance of winning PL and roughly 90,000 places higher in overall rankings. (currently 134,000, estimate 40,000ish with 48 extra points)

**7 actually but captain Rooney didn't play and Suarez was VC.

Good point well made. However you'd only have 17 points extra. In looking at Captain outcomes you can only count the Captain bonus, ie the extra points you got for giving the player the armband.

Can be hard to get the head around that but put it like this. Fot the period you are assessing your total team score doesn't change, the Captain bonus is the only variable. Suarez got 197 bonus, while your actual selections got 180 bonus. Therfore you'd be 17 better off.

Your general point is proven though. Id also have been up about 15 if id captained Suarez every week I had him.

In my case it was also down to some silly calls on Lukaku while I made big gain on captaining Aguero and Lukaku once each.
